Best Holiday Gift Spot: Dashwood Books NYC

Best Holiday Gift Spot: Dashwood Books NYC

If you, like me, are looking for that special, unique gift for the hard-to-buy-for visual person in your life, then look no further than Dashwood Books at 33 Bond Street in New York City.
Owner David Strettell, who used to be the Cultural Director at Magnum Photos, opened this fabulous gem-of-a-book store in 2005, and it happens to be NYC's only independent bookstore devoted entirely to photography. Unassuming and quaint on the outside, Dashwood is full of photographic treasures and limited-edition books, that range in price from manageable to almost unattainable! Many important titles, are imported from Japan and Europe and are available for the first time in the NYC at Dashwood. They also specialize in rare vintage books as well as many out-of-print, and impossible to find photo books. This spot is a must-see if you are holiday shopping in the city or just need some amazing inspiration.

Dashwood is hands-down the best photography bookshop in the city. David always has great recommendations and is very accommodating for special orders or tracking down stuff you just can't find. They keep a great selection of impossible-to-find-elsewhere, limited edition photographer zines and pubs as well that start to rival what Printed Matter (.org) has on hand.
