Miyoshi Umeki and Pat Suzuki, Time, December 22, 1958. Umeki was the first Asian to win an Oscar, for her role in Sayonara (1957). Pat Suzuki was not an Oscar-winner, but became known for her role in the Broadway production of Flower Drum Song.
Dustin Hoffman and John Wayne, Life, July 11, 1969, illustration by Milton Glaser. Hoffman has won two Oscars, Best Actor for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and Rain Main (1988). John Wayne won an Oscar for his role in True Grit (1969).
Lee Marvin, Esquire, March 1970. Lee Marvin got his only Oscar nomination and win for Best Actor in Cat Ballou (1965).
Alec Guinness, Time, April 21, 1958. Guinness won the Best Actor Award for The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957).
