TIME: The X Factor

TIME: The X Factor Aurthur Hochstein spoke of TIME's iconic "X" covers and continuing the tradition with covers marking the demise of Saddam Hussein and Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi back in October at SPD's 1,000 Covers evening. With the breaking news that Osama Bin Laden has been killed (on the day of the 8th Anniversary of "Mission Accomplished" no less) will the magazine will run another edition?

UPDATE: Ad Age confirms that TIME will run the Bin Laden cover that Aurthur mentioned at our 1,000 Covers evening (illustration by Tim O'Brien).

Here's a look back at TIME magazine's use of the "X" cover:

I believe it was Tim O'Brien who did the Al-Zarqawi cover you are talking about. Here is a post of his on Drawger about the Bin Laden cover: http://www.drawger.com/tonka/?article_id=12290

Does anyone out there know who has illustrated the "X" over time.

The Al-Zarqawi and Hussein covers look to use slight variations of the same one. The others vary quite a bit. If anyone knows, leave a comment here on this page, Thanks!

Let's answer it this way: Not only is the cover file already done, with nothing to add but the cover date and UPC, it was probably done so long ago that it's in QuarkXpress.
