Bespoke Magazine No. 13: Kinfolk
For the 48th SPD Pub competition and gala, Co-chairs Courtney Murphy and Marshall McKinney sought to acknowledge the "bespokeness" that adds interest to our increasingly homogenous world, celebrating publishers both large and small that are creating customized publications with an emphasis on individuality.

Download your PUB 48 competition entry form here and get involved (the standard deadline has passed but you can still enter with an additional late fee until January 25th).

The next bespoke pubs you may may not be aware of: Kinfolk

WHO WE ARE
Nathan and Katie Williams founders of Portland-based Kinfolk, didn't launch after years of toiling in the publishing industry but rather after a simple conversation with friends."We often had friends over to our small apartment when we were at college and we recognized a void in inspiration and resources that resonated with us.While we sat around chatting, the idea was born to fill the void ourselves."

WHY THEY DO IT
Kinfolk publishes quarterly as a collectable print magazine, daily with online features, and in-person with workshops, dinners, and events. The quarterly was developed to respond to a gap on the newsstand. It caters to  young artists and food enthusiasts by focusing on simple ways to spend time together. Each issue combines essays, recipes, interviews, personal stories and practical tips. Whether it's a new cooking skill, road trip route, or camping guide, Kinfolk is a blueprint for a balanced, intentional lifestyle. The sixth issue Kinfolk honors the holiday season as a time to celebrate the traditions and highlights everything from recipes for cozy weekends, ideas for venturing out-of-doors, fragrant simmer pots, a foraging guide for pine trees, and inspiration for the dark days of winter.
