Junior Designer

The Hollywood Reporter, based in Los Angeles, is seeking a freelance junior designer immediately. Job duties include: designing department pages in the weekly magazine, designing for the website and ipad and helping with the general maintenance of the art and photo department. The ideal candidate should be hard-working with a great attitude. Occasional late nights can be expected since this is a weekly news-magazine. Candidate should be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. No phone calls please.

Art Department Intern

Discover Magazine is currently seeking Art Department Interns. Candidate must be a senior level undergraduate student or a graduate student with strong print production skills enrolled in a fine arts or communications design program/institution. Excellent typography and conceptual imaging skills are bare necessities for this internship. Highly proficient InDesign users strongly preferred. Fast learners more comfortable with Quark will be considered (for the record, we use InDesign CS2 and we're migrating to CS5 in the coming weeks). For the best possible learning experience, we require maintaining at least 15 hours weekly within our offices in Manhattan. Working under the direction of the art director, this intern will conceptualize, sketch, comp, and produce editorial designs for a 1-million-plus circulation national science magazine focused on long-form narrative journalism. Additionally, the intern will work under direction from the photo editor to provide administrative and research support, learning effective techniques for finding and sourcing high-quality existing imagery. Finally, this internship will also include training in production workflow, software, and techniques to maintain page geometries, typographic standards, and shipping final files to press. Other duties will include taking a proactive role in maintaining the editorial wall, participating in art meetings, and creating the occasional support media for screen or print properties, or print campaigns. We're also in the midst of creating our first iPad version of the magazine, and if there is interest, the intern will participate in that, as well. Between cycles of the monthly issue, we also produce quarterly newsstand-only special issues which allow for more creative leverage, and which the intern and art director work on together very closely. Martha Stewart Photography Spring Internship

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking an intern for the photography department. This will be an opportunity to experience and learn all about the photography department's role in an editorial environment. The photography intern will assist in the planning and execution of shoots, maintaining of equipment, and will assist various team members. We value those who are interested in the Martha Stewart Living culture, and those who are motivated, industrious, and eager to learn--with a desire to work in a challenging and creative editorial environment. The ideal candidate can work between 20-30 hours a week in our West Chelsea office between January and May 2011. We are willing to work around a school schedule and are flexible regarding start and end dates. Candidates MUST be able to receive school credit and MUST have either completed their Junior Year of College or are enrolled in a Graduate or Advanced Degree program. We will pay a $20 daily stipend. Maxim Magazine Photo Interns

Maxim Magazine is seeking enthusiastic Photo Interns to join their team in 2011. Applicants must be photography majors, detail oriented, thorough, hard working and responsible. Interns will have the opportunity to see how a photo department for a nationally distributed magazine operates from the inside. Interns will learn what it takes to produce glamour, portrait, fashion and still-life photo shoots for a monthly magazine. Art Director

The Art Director reports to the Design Director and is responsible for designing cover stories, special packages, departments, and occasionally covers. The position requires a strong, organized leader who is comfortable art directing and managing the workflow of the art department. The Art Director collaborates closely with the photo and editorial departments to ensure a consistent visual identity for the magazine and special projects as necessary. This position requires someone who can work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, is able to multi-task and meet weekly production deadlines. Responsibilities: - Work closely with creative team to conceptualize, research and plan visuals for the magazine. - Manages and directs art department staff. Responsible for hiring and training of new employees, including freelancers. - Responsible for daily workflow and layout reviews. - Work with photo/edit/production staff to monitor and meet all production and shipping deadlines. - Work with pre-press vendor to review color correction (when Design Director is not available). - Work with production and art departments to ensure quality control on designs.

Hemispheres Magazine Art/Photo Interrn

Esquire Magazine Spring 2011 Art Intern

Esquire magazine (Hearst Corporation) is seeking a junior or senior graphic design student for an internship in the Art Department. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Good Housekeeping Magazine 2011 Spring Art Intern

Good Housekeeping magazine is looking for a 2011 Spring Semester ART INTERN. Web/Print Designer
