Good Housekeeping 2011 Summer Art Internship

Good Housekeeping Magazine is looking for a 2011 Summer Art Intern. The right candidate will hold many of the same responsibilities as a full-time staff member, including conceptualizing art for stories, collaborating with the editorial and photo staff and designing smart, attractive layouts. The intern will also have the opportunity to help style and prop in-house photo shoots, allowing he/she to follow his/her vision from concept to completion. Other daily duties include updating the mock-up wall, scanning, copying, and running errands. The candidate should be proficient in InDesign, and Photoshop. Illustrator skills are a plus. The candidate must be available to work at least 2 full days. Print Editorial Design

Accountable for all aspects of conceptual art direction, graphic design, layout, design production, and general aesthetics for the content of several of the University's most important print communications magazines. Work with writers, the Associate Creative Director and the Creative Director to develop conceptual, branded creative alumni publications. Serve as a contact with printers and color separators and approve color proofs, working with photographers and illustrator to commission or buy art for publications.

Digital Imaging Specialist

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a Digital Imaging Specialist for the Publishing Group to work on various titles as needed. The Specialist will be responsible for color correcting, retouching, manipulating, and trafficking images and other related assets. The Specialist must be able to translate mark-ups on proofs to actual retouching, and have the ability to turn work around quickly on tight deadlines. 

Requirements: Expertise in Photoshop CS4 and CS5, with a good working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, and Bridge is required. Must be extremely proficient on a Macintosh Platform. Magazine and or publishing experience is preferred. Must have excellent communications skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and experience working with art directors and print production. An appreciation of the MSLO culture and an interest in the core content areas is preferred. A background in photography would be a plus. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including an occasional late night.

Art Director - Seattle Met

Seattle Met magazine has an immediate opening for Art Director. This position is a senior leadership position in an award-winning publication dedicated to the highest standards in editorial and design and based in one of the nation's most desirable places to live.

RESPONSIBILITIES The Art Director will set and maintain standards for all art content --design, photography, illustration and production--for Seattle Met. Duties include design or design approval of magazine art content; assigning and editing photography and illustrations and cultivating relationships with freelance photographers and illustrators. This person must have creative vision, the ability to generate original concepts, a high level of design sophistication, a keen eye for photography, and exceptional typography skills.The ability to create images using infographics or typography is a must. The art director will hire and supervise a deputy art director, recruit interns, and manage workflow with firm deadlines, and work in daily collaboration with editorial and production teams.  In addition, the art director will manage and oversee branding and design for marketing materials, direct mail, etc.

EXPERIENCE: Qualified candidates must have at least 5 years of experience designing or art directing for a national or regional consumer magazine and at least 2 years of experience hiring, managing, and mentoring designers; managing a budget; art directing photo shoots including portraits, food and fashion, still and documentary photos.

SKILLS: Education and techical background must include expert skills in InDesign, Mac Photoshop and Illustrator, extensive knowledge and stylish use of type, photography, and illustration. Best candidates will have a bachelor's degree in graphic design or similar field and bring outstanding conceptual and organizational skills to a fast-paced workplace. Web skills, including design, video, and interactive media are a huge plus. Being a magazine design geek and fun to work with helps too.

Overview: Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports has an exciting opportunity for a ShopSmart Design summer intern. This internship is currently available for summer 2011 in the Yonkers, New York office. Our headquarters in Yonkers is the largest independent educational and consumer product testing center in the world with more than 50 labs. Consumer Reports was recently named "one of the best places to work in Westchester County" by Westchester Magazine.

Join a team dedicated to protecting and informing consumers through various communication channels. This is a wonderful summer opportunity for students interested in gaining invaluable experience in a vibrant organization, working closely on issues affecting consumers. Summer internships will be available to current full-time students (undergraduate and graduate college students) or recent graduates (must be graduating in May 2011). Internship positions will start in late May and run through mid-August. Interns will be paid $15 per hour for a maximum of 35 hours per week for a total of 12 weeks. Paid Art Department Intern

Our small but nationally known upscale food magazine is looking for a part time PAID Art Department intern. We are looking for someone who is preferably a student in an art program (ideally graphic design) in the NYC area though we will consider all applicants who meet qualifications. We need an intern who can come in 1-2 days a week (around 10 hours a week total). It is important that you have SOME knowledge of the Adobe programs (mostly InDesign, some Photoshop and Illustrator). General computer proficiency is obviously required; we are mac-based. If you have your own laptop you can bring in and use, it would be a major plus. Daily duties include: magazine production work using InDesign, editing photography in Photoshop, doing research on different stories online, aid in organizing design details including fonts, colors, photos, etc. and helping with general office tasks. The office environment is small, tight-knit, and hard working though generally laid back. The Art Department Intern will be exposed to and learn how a magazine operates from planing to press. freelance photo reseacher / production

the wall street journal photo department is currently looking for a freelance photo researcher with photo production experience. We are a 10 issue a year publication under new leadership. you will be working directly under the photo director. ideal candidate can start on Feb 16th to over lap with the out going person. The job will be for two to three weeks or possibly longer.

Bon Appétit - Production Assistant/Associate

Reporting to the Production Director, the Production Assistant/Associate will be responsible for scanning and trafficking all art to prepress, placing APR images in layouts, flowing and styling text into layouts, as well as circulating proofs and shipping pages.
The ideal candidate should be well-organized and self-motivated.
Required: 1-2 years of experience in publishing working in either an *art or production department and be comfortable balancing multiple tasks in a fast deadline-environment. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator are a must. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Flash, and video editing production with AfterEffects, Premiere or Final Cut would be a plus.
