Production Manager

Production Manager We seek an experienced, dynamic, high energy, organized, hands-on production manager to oversee and handle the complete manufacturing and production process of ASPEN magazine. Responsibilities include: overseeing the production process for all our publications, 6 issues of ASPEN and 2 brand extensions of Guide and special issues and promotional/marketing materials; the creation and monitoring of all schedules (print and web), working with printers and outside vendors, including liaising with pre-press, printing and other paper vendors for quality control. Must have good people and problem-solving skills in dealing with advertiser inquiries, requests, and ensure with account executives that all contractual obligations for advertising positioning are met. Reporting directly to Business Manager, you are responsible for procurement and analysis of bids, contract negotiations, maintenance of established budgets and cost controls, coordinating with editorial, art and advertising sales staffs, and management of freelance production staff when required. Some layout and design work. This individual must have strong managerial skills, the ability to multitask, the capacity to work under pressure, a comprehensive understanding of magazine/web publishing. and the ability to work closely with all members of the management team. Must have production experience and advanced knowledge of pre-press, composition, printing, binding, color separation, proofing, paper and extensive experience with In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop. Must live in, be knowledgeable about Colorado resort, and planning to make a lifestyle move in advance

Graphic Designer

We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented graphic designer to work with McAby Media full-time. We publish 3 magazines: H Texas, Chile Pepper, and Pilates Style. The graphic designer will be responsible for creating layouts and sales collateral as well as participate in editorial meetings and photo shoots for art direction. The designer will also have some experience with designing and working with web content. H Texas publishes quarterly while Chile Pepper and Pilates Style publishes six times a year each - we work on a total of 16 issues a year, so there will be emphasis on meeting deadlines.

Esquire Magazine Summer 2011 Art Intern

Esquire magazine (Hearst Corporation) is seeking a junior or senior graphic design student for an internship in the Art Department. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Duties will include: updating layouts, minor imaging work, and some design. Candidates should have an interest in magazine publishing, strong working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop. Duration: Spring Semester Applicants must receive college credit for the internship. You must turn in a letter on college letterhead stating you will receive credit. The letter must be signed by a professor, advisor, of the registrar. This position is unpaid. A commitment of 2 days a week is required, from 10 am to 6 pm (flexible). Deputy Art Director

Washingtonian Magazine, located in Washington, DC, is looking for a Deputy Art Director with 5-7 years experience in magazine publishing. This position reports to the Design Director and is responsible for designing a mix of features, service packages and department pages, working with editors and the photo department to conceive and direct artwork for a variety of stories. Collaborating with the Design Director in guiding designers in the creation of additional department and front of book pages, as well as playing a key role in a planned redesign. The ideal candidate has a well-developed design style, strong typographic skills and an all around passion for magazines. Skills include a thorough knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and K4 with the ability to balance multiple projects and problem-solve under tight deadlines. Assistant Art Director

McGraw-Hill Construction has an opening for an Assistant Art Director, ENR in New York. Meet with editors to plan and execute compelling page designs that add to brand value and recognition. Photo editing and selection of compelling images of the highest standard. Commissioning of photography and illustration where needed. Conceptualize and execute information graphics, tables and charts to the highest professional standard. Coordinate with production managers and editors to prepare files for production manager's workflow and prepress production. Re-size, create correct file formats and correct color of images in these publications for print and web. Image manipulate and retouch as necessary Oversee the day-to-day workflow of publications, working under direction of Art Director, and report back to AD and Senior Group Art Director on a regular basis. Oversee ancillary design projects within the MGH Construction group on an as-needed basis using above skill sets (ex: Regional publication editions, ENR national redesign).

DESIGNER, NYLON MAGAZINE

NYLON magazine is currently seeking a designer to join the NYLON team. Responsibilities include the design of front of book fashion and beauty sections as well as feature stories. Strong typographic skills are a must, including the ability to illustrate type and letterforms. Must be proficient with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. 1-3 years magazine experience preferred. Experience designing for the iPad and working with the Woodwing platform a plus. Design Intern

Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine needs a design intern to assist the art department. Candidate will help with scanning artwork, organizing magazine research library and illustrator contracts. Other duties include, creating art packets for the Edit team and maintaining the layout walls. Responsibilities would include some administrative tasks for the design team as well. The best candidate for this job will be someone who is flexible, enthusiastic, well- organized and a have a passion for magazine design. If you sketch, doodle or draw, that is a plus! This is an unpaid internship, although school credit will be granted.

Freelance Art Production Associate, Books and Special Projects

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a freelance Art Production Associate for a 6 week asignment in the Books and Special Projects Department. The ideal candidate can start next week. Responsibilities: Work with the art team to tighten layouts for the release of composed pages. Implement the design standards established by the art team using the current production guidelines. Work closely with the editorial staff during all phases of the type workflow. Assist in preparing layouts Requirements: 5+ years' production experience in a magazine environment or related. Expertise in CS5 is essential. Working knowledge of the K4 system is helpful. Must be skilled at tightening layouts, linking images, and creating articles. Should have and meticulous type closing skills: kerning and ragging. Should have experience working in an editorial team, with editors and art directors.
