Senior Digital Designer

Foreign Policy magazine is now accepting applications for senior digital designer. Candidates should have experience designing graphics, infographics, maps, and charts -- as well as producing and coordinating visuals, graphics, and interactive components with developers for large feature pieces across platforms, from desktop to mobile to tablet and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a background in global news, as well as an interest in politics and economics. (You don't need to understand the terms of the Greek bailout, but it would help to know what the ECB is.) You should feel at home and excited to work in a fast-paced, daily newsroom, collaborating with small teams of colleagues to make their work come alive online. You're a talented multi-tasker with the ability to manage the pace of daily work while also pushing forward big-picture projects on deadline. And you're familiar with trends in online and digital design, including data visualization, animated GIFs, illustration skills, and (ideally) some front-end coding. In addition to working on daily news and longer-term robust features and special projects, there will be opportunities to not only help rebrand and redesign existing components of the website, but also to build and design entirely new features and templates as Foreign Policy grows and retools the website's UX. This is a hands-on design position for web platforms only. Day-to-day work includes collaborating with editors and staff writers on visual treatment for stories and designing and creating layouts for editorial products. Skills: Experience with Illustrator, Sketch, and/or InDesign. Familiarity with all common image formats -- web standards (JPG, PNG, GIF) as well as PSD, AI, and EPS -- and an ability to optimize them for web/mobile display. Please send a resume, cover letter, and portfolio (including relevant links to online projects) to deputy editor Rebecca Frankel: rebecca.frankel [at] foreignpolicy.com.
