    Job Description:

He/she must have six (6) or more years of high level, full-time professional experience in the specialized field of information design with a comprehensive understanding of current practices, trends, and technology. The candidate must also demonstrate ability to teach college-level visual design courses in both AAS and BFA levels.

    The candidate will assist the department in conceptualizing its direction for the future and will be able to assist the Department in shaping and driving the changes needed for the associate and BFA degree programs. They will add leadership and direction in order to implement the College's strategic plan for 2020 (http://www.fitnyc.edu/6646.asp). Strong preference will be given to those candidates exhibiting experience and understanding of higher education. They will also need to carry out department work in addition to their teach responsibilities.

    It is expected that this new faculty member will have an active information design practice and record of utilizing design to promote sustainability and/or social justice. The new faculty member will be expected to have the relevant, terminal degree in design, an MFA, March, MDes, MS, etc. Experience in teaching information design at all levels in a college setting is required as is some familiarity with curricular development, cross-disciplinary emphasis, and utilization of technology and innovation in teaching.

    Demonstrate an understanding of globally diverse areas of design and business and a strong knowledge base in current design business practices.

    Demonstrate ability to integrate this knowledge into interdisciplinary, innovative, and cutting edge design curricula.

    Instructional Design

    Demonstrate a deep understanding, and successful application, of emerging pedagogy, such as team, online, and blended teaching, interdisciplinary teaching methods, and active learning, as well as a proven record of successfully imparting information literacy to students,.

    Demonstrate ability to be responsive to industry changes and practices, including technology use, and incorporate those changes, as well as their own professional experiences, into curricula.

    Demonstrate ability to develop curricula that take advantage of emerging technologies in the industry.

    Learning Enrichment

    Demonstrate ability to incorporate a variety of instructional delivery methods, including the use of demonstrations and specific project assignments, based on emerging and innovative pedagogical theory.

    Proven understanding and application of interdisciplinary learning.

    Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate ideas, being sensitive to different creative learning styles and abilities, while partnering with students to foster critical thinking and creative problem solving.

    Professionalism

    Maintain a successful record of scholarly exploration in information design with evidence of presentations at professional conferences.

    Maintain active participation in the graphic design and/or advertising industry with a willingness to share industry contacts and opportunities to help achieve department and college initiatives.

    Demonstrate experience in management and supervision of a design team and/or staff within a collegial work environment.

    Technology

    Demonstrate technological skills relating to software programs widely used in the industry.

    Demonstrate ability to communicate through technology and adapt to the College's learning management system as well as basic management systems.

    Demonstrate application of design to promote sustainability and/or to solve social issues.


    Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in information design, digital design, graphic design, or related fields. Minimum of three (3) years of post-secondary teaching experience (inclusive of design-related administrative roles such as Director or Coordinator positions). A minimum of six (6) years of high level professional experience in the specialized field of information design. Experience in data visualization and ability to create in multiple media and formats. A strong design portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of current design trends, concepts, and technology is essential.

    Master's degree preferred.
