Job Description:
This position will report to the Creative Director and will work very closely with the editors/photo department on the daily production of the quarterly luxury print magazine and digital platform as needed. Duties include art direction for FOB features including infographic and design elements; Managing outside resources, including vendors, illustrators and designers 
This is a freelance position to start immediately through mid-March with the opportunity of full time thereafter.

Requirements: 
- At least 5-8 years as a Designer/Art Director
- Master of current digital design tools such as Adobe CS
- Creative & tasteful problem solving for relationships between image and type
- Good judgement as to what works to drive audience and engagement  
- Proven management skills 
- Can work in a fast-paced environment 
- Familiarity with pop culture, fashion, trends

Creative Services Director

BloodHorse LLC, the leading provider of information and news for the Thoroughbred industry has an opening for its Production Director in its Lexington, Kentucky office. The Creative Services Director supervises the production of multiple cross-platform products, which entails active involvement through all phases of pre-production, planning, production, schedule, execution and distribution in a cost-effective and time sensitive manner. The Director is responsible for defining strategy and developing, executing, and managing comprehensive production plan for various print and digital products. Responsibilities include communicating with customers, management, internal departments, and vendors to coordinate overall publishing effort in accordance with corporate goals. The Director plays an integral role in improving efficiencies within publishing cycle and leads and directs a forward-thinking team including both print and online graphic artists and production professionals. Duties Include: • Directs general operations of production team, including establishing operating and strategic priorities and serving as liaison with editors, sales representatives and publisher. • Responsible for daily production operations including book markups, quality control, timeline management and digital advertising placement. • Develops and maintains production schedules for magazines in both print and tablet format, brochures, and online promotional campaigns. • Responsible for obtaining quotes and bids for all publications/projects and manages all manufacturing vendor relationships. • Prepares and manages $2,000,000 budget. • Approves all manufacturing invoices. • Responsible for 10+ titles schedules, budgets, quality, communication and delivery. • Provide leadership and direction to marketing associates to guide the creation of promotional materials, and ensure congruence with objectives. • Track, project and report statistics of advertising and editorial values. • Structure, hire, train and supervise production team. Knowledge and Skill requirements ▪ Prior experience in print magazine publishing. ▪ Significant experience managing multiple titles, outside developers, internal/external resources. ▪ Proficiency in Excel, Word, Adobe Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and all file formats generated by these applications. ▪ Knowledge of XML data use within templated InDesign documents ▪ Strong background in Acrobat and all versions of PDF's and their uses. ▪ Must know all facets and pitfalls of digital file transfers including email, FTP, CD, DVD, etc. ▪ Must be familiar with standard project accounting procedures. ▪ Understanding of postal requirements for periodicals. ▪ Must know Mac OS and be comfortable in a Windows environment. ▪ Must have a thorough understanding of font management software as well as all types of fonts and font problems. ▪ Knowledge of ad serving systems and processes a plus. ▪ Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment ▪ Must have excellent trouble shooting skills, strong organizational skills and be able to learn new technologies on the fly. On-Site Print Editorial Designer (Freelance)

Mediaplanet is recruiting 3-4 editorial/print designers to join our in-house freelance team. We're looking for designers who are available to start in January 2017 and work regularly through the end of March (with the possibility of continuing through the end of 2017). Must be based out of the New York metro area and be able to work in-house during regular work hours: 8:30am-5:30pm. Responsibilities - Work as the sole designer on print campaigns ranging in size from 8-24 pages from concept to press submission and final file archiving - Work under the art direction of the senior designer - Collaborate with both the production team and sales team to curate and design content - Re-touch photography as needed - Design both print and digital ads for clients as needed - Design infographics and repurpose digital art for print Logistics - This position is freelance, commissioned and paid on a per project basis. - Design and production for each project spans 3 or 4 days. - Compensation ranges from $500-$1,000 for 3 to 4 days of work, depending on the size and scope of the project. (On average projects pay $600 or $800.) - Designers work on their own computers (must have own Adobe Creative Suite license) and backup files to Mediaplanet's server upon project completion. - While Mediaplanet's freelance team works in-house, infrequent exceptions can be made in advance to accommodate outside work or other commitments. - Mediaplanet busiest production period is the last 2 months of each business quarter - Projects are scheduled every two weeks.

Digital Media Designer

Salon Media (publisher of Salon.com) is hiring a full-time digital media designer to work in our NYC office. We are a fast-paced, high-volume editorial environment and we want a talented professional who is pro-active, efficient, and proficient. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Photoshop, Illustrator, and interactive graphics and data visualizations using javascript and HTML5. The designer will be responsible for creating interactive content from the bottom up, building interactivity for final use upon the site. This interactive content will include infographics and animated branding elements as well as modeled and rendered text treatments and graphics for our video team.
