    Dallas Observer has an immediate opening for an experienced editorial art director for both its online and in-print publications. The art director is responsible for all multimedia efforts, primarily overseeing photography which includes slide shows, as well as videography and illustration. He/she must be able to conceptualize and produce modern, sophisticated, and vibrant design for online presentations, covers, features, and special sections. This individual must be an exceptionally creative designer who has experience commissioning high-quality videography, photography and illustration, negotiating fees, clearing rights and managing a budget. The art director will balance strong leadership with strong collaboration in order to thrive in a team environment.

  • Job Requirements: Five years of editorial design experience is required. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to juggle several projects at once. The art director will work with and manage other designers in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Knowledge of PDF and postscript technology is beneficial. Other talents such as illustration, photography or video production are desirable. Applicants must have a superior understanding of typography and expert-level skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat.
