ICS - Associate Art Director

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibility includes the conceptualization, art direction and implementation of visual design and content across all channels--including the pages of AARP Publications, both the Magazine and Bulletin, their tablet iterations, book jackets, promotional and social media materials, and other internal and external AARP publications collateral. 2. Follow designs through from concept to print/digital production and the ability to quickly adapt to changes in design direction. 3. Have great visual conceptualization skills, a proven ability to hire and art direct the best illustrators and photographers, assist in the art direction of photo shoots, have exceptional publication design skills, and must have strong typographic skills 4. Must have strong leadership qualities, and ownership over work, while developing and executing the design and vision of the publications as established by the Senior Design staff. 5. Embrace teamwork and collaboration. Ability to work well under pressure, multitask and adhere to tight deadlines. Must be detail-oriented--strong organizational and time-management skills are a must. 6. In-depth knowledge of Adobe CS6 (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). DPS experience a plus. 7. National magazine design experience preferred.

Assistant Photo Editor

AARP Media, located in Washington, DC, is looking for a full time Assistant Photo Editor to join its creative team. This position is responsible for bringing beautiful, contemporary, inspiring and smart images to our award-winning publications: AARP The Magazine and AARP Bulletin. The ideal candidate has strong research experience and an extensive list of photo sources. The job also requires experience with Digital Asset Management, DAM systems. The ideal candidate has impeccable multi-tasking skills and must be able to will work on projects both short and long term simultaneously. This position covers the print magazines as well as digital content. The main skills needed are a firm grasp of photography research and extensive photo sources. This person should be up to date on photographers currently shooting editorial and beyond.

Photo Director

AARP Media, located in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a motivated and talented full time Photo Director to join its creative team. The ideal candidate will have the chance to use their sophisticated eye and strong visual point of view to impact our award-winning publications: AARP The Magazine and AARP Bulletin. Responsibilities include: conceptualizing photo treatments with designers, and editors to illustrate stories in all sections of the publications; researching, pitching, and assigning photographers for all sections of the publications. This positions requires current knowledge of all areas of photography including lifestyle, conceptual, still life, portrait, action, reportage; producing photo shoots; creative research of stock photography, submitting imagery for color, inputting page credits, and other administrative duties. Candidates must have 8 years of magazine publishing experience and a love of photography. This position requires a keen eye for detail and strong multitasking and organizational skills.
