University Marketing, the Ohio State University Office of Advancement Position Overview The Editorial Art Director leads visioning, coordination and production through all facets of the creative process for the Ohio State Alumni Magazine - an 85-page publication that is distributed multiple times throughout the year. Directing the editorial design team, he/she will foster alignment across marketing disciplines and with Alumni Association leadership. In addition, this position will select, direct and manage external creative partner relationships including but not limited to photographers, illustrators, freelance designers and printers. This exciting opportunity will primarily entail direction that includes choosing stories and photography, managing creative partners, and storyboarding. However, the selected candidate also needs to be able act in a hands-on capacity as this individual will be responsible for high-profile designs that include covers, feature stories, etc. The Editorial Art Director will be the primary liaison for production of the magazine and will also strive to engage with the Buckeye community in an attempt to encourage creative participation. Organizational Overview University Marketing exists to identify and share the unmatched number of compelling stories just waiting to be told by Ohio State's world-class faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and friends and serve as a central resource to the hundreds of communicators across the university. From creative wordsmiths, eagle-eyed photographers and videographers to digital content directors and proven project leaders, we develop and advance the university's key reputational goals in a positive, consistent, cutting-edge manner. 

Performance Objectives 
Short-term: 
• Become familiar with OSU brand guidelines 
• Establish style guidelines 
• Understand what makes University Marketing at Ohio State special while also understanding what differentiates our magazine from our competitors 
Long-term: 
• Solidify the appropriate outside resources 
• Establish partnerships with the production/print stakeholders 
• Increase the engagement of young alumni 
• Broaden audience appeal 
• Increase positive readership feedback 
• Improve advertising strategy to tighten standards and better integrate with content

Experience Requirements 
The ideal candidate will have proven layout experience, be equally comfortable directing and doing, and be both inspired and inspiring to others. He/she will thoroughly understand the nuances of printing, be comfortable managing others and partnering with both internal and external teams, and be an effective communicator of vision.
