Free-lance Senior Designers/NYC

V Magazine is looking for free-lance art directors to oversee design for the brand. This includes print, social media and events. This position will work closely with editors, the photo and online teams, production team and will manage interns. Reports directly to the Art Director and Managing Editor. 

Responsibilities: 
• Oversee all design and production for the main issue V and VMAN, supplements and promotional materials • V is bimonthly and VMAN is printed twice a year • Work with editors to brainstorm ideas for visually based stories, including photos and supporting graphics 
• Contract illustrators for original content; negotiate fees and contracts 
• Oversee photo editors and interns
• Oversee visuals for major editorial packages to ensure a cohesive, V look 
• Work simultaneously with editors and branded content teams to make sure sponsored photo shoots, graphics, and other visuals fit the V aesthetic

ART INTERNS

Assists in the daily tasks of the art department including design of pages, invites and social media. Responsible for photocopying, scanning, archiving, creating pdfs and contact sheets, light photo retouching, making lo-res images. Must be able to communicate to art director, designers and editorial staff. Responsible for maintaining studio relationships via email correspondence. Research typography, photography and illustration. Occasional administrative duties and organization
