Art/Photo Internship - DuJour

DuJour Media is looking for intern to assist the art and photo departments for Spring 2017 with an immediate start date. Candidates must have a strong interest in magazine design, photography and typography. Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must, plus the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. He/she should be resourceful, responsible and a creative problem-solver. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Duties will include but are not limited to: Maintaining and updating the mini wall for each issue, preparing and updating flip books for Editor-in-Chief and Creative Director, photo research, and preparing layouts for presentation. Under the guidance of the Art Director, the intern will experience the process of creating a magazine. This is the perfect position for a dynamic, self-motivated college student looking for hands-on experience.

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will be an industry-leading information designer, with award-winning design sensibility. He/she must have six (6) or more years of high level, full-time professional experience in the specialized field of information design with a comprehensive understanding of current practices, trends, and technology. The candidate must also demonstrate ability to teach college-level visual design courses in both AAS and BFA levels.

The candidate will assist the department in conceptualizing its direction for the future and will be able to assist the Department in shaping and driving the changes needed for the associate and BFA degree programs. They will add leadership and direction in order to implement the College's strategic plan for 2020 (http://www.fitnyc.edu/6646.asp). Strong preference will be given to those candidates exhibiting experience and understanding of higher education. They will also need to carry out department work in addition to their teach responsibilities.

It is expected that this new faculty member will have an active information design practice and record of utilizing design to promote sustainability and/or social justice. The new faculty member will be expected to have the relevant, terminal degree in design, an MFA, March, MDes, MS, etc. Experience in teaching information design at all levels in a college setting is required as is some familiarity with curricular development, cross-disciplinary emphasis, and utilization of technology and innovation in teaching.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in information design, digital design, graphic design, or related fields. Minimum of three (3) years of post-secondary teaching experience (inclusive of design-related administrative roles such as Director or Coordinator positions). A minimum of six (6) years of high level professional experience in the specialized field of information design. Experience in data visualization and ability to create in multiple media and formats. A strong design portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of current design trends, concepts, and technology is essential.

Master's degree preferred.

Reporting to the Production Director, the Production Assistant/Associate will be responsible for scanning and trafficking all art to prepress, placing APR images in layouts, flowing and styling text into layouts, as well as circulating proofs and shipping pages.
The ideal candidate should be well-organized and self-motivated.
Required: 1-2 years of experience in publishing working in either an *art or production department and be comfortable balancing multiple tasks in a fast deadline-environment. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator are a must. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Flash, and video editing production with AfterEffects, Premiere or Final Cut would be a plus.
