SR. Newspaper Producer

The Naples Daily News seeks a competent, detail oriented and creative designer to fill the role of Senior Newspaper Producer. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, be imaginative and a capable designer with strong communication skills. The Senior Newspaper Producer is a hands-on positions, overseeing the front line production and design of three weekly newspapers and one monthly magazine under the supervision of the Naples Daily News Art Director. This position will also manage workflow in cooperation with publication editors in order to meet weekly and monthly deadlines. Key Activities: •Presenting the news clearly and producing pages with an eye to limiting errors and inaccuracies, good headline writing, play of stories, photo/graphic presentation, and consistent deadline performance. •Responding to concerns or suggestions from editors or their designees about story play, presentation, headlines, etc. •Implementing the division common styles (written-word and presentation) and guidelines in the most efficient manner possible. •Posting stories online. •Making recommendations regarding both presentation and editorial coverage to improve efficiency and relevancy. •Implementing efficient workflow. •Promoting teamwork, communication and participation in daily and special projects. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities •Requires a BS/BA in news/media/journalism discipline or equivalent experience. •A minimum of 3 to 4 years daily newspaper editorial experience preferred. •Must have ability to improve and develop own skills through feedback, personal development and shared best practices. •Must demonstrate organizational efficiency and effectiveness necessary to contribute to a fast-paced production environment serving multiple customers •Must possess solid news judgment. •Must possess a clear sense of mission, a design/presentation philosophy and outstanding editing and writing skills to ensure the integrity of all news products. •Must demonstrate a thorough understanding and operational fluency of in line editing; copy editing, headline writing, picture editing, and publication design (from font management to color theory). •Must demonstrate a thorough understanding and operational fluency of contemporary newspaper technology (Saxotech experience preferred) and front-end system interaction with wire services, syndicated feeds, online CMS system, etc. •Must show understanding and knowledge of libel laws as well as state and federal laws regarding open meetings, open records and access to information. •Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be an innovative thinker. •Must possess strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate multiple customers and supervisors at multiple locations, both within and outside the newsrooms. •Must exhibit high standards of accuracy and fairness
