Marketing Communications Specialist 3 (Designer, The Penn Stater Magazine) The Penn Stater magazine is seeking a Designer to join our team that produces an award-winning bi-monthly magazine for the country's largest alumni association (more than 176,000 members). This position reports to the Art Director and is responsible for the design of front- and back-of-book department pages and the occasional feature. In addition to design, duties include photo research; prepping digital files for prepress; trafficking files through our production process; working closely with freelance illustrators; and participating in planning and brainstorming meetings with the rest of the magazine staff. Candidates should have the ability to take a project from concept to completion; be proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; and excel working both independently and in a creative team environment. The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences. Art Director, The Penn Stater Magazine Job # 37894 The Penn Stater magazine seeks a talented graphic designer to art direct and design a bimonthly, full-color, 80- to 96-page alumni magazine with a circulation of 169,000. Responsibilities include identifying, making assignments to, and cultivating relationships with photographers and illustrators; working collaboratively with the editorial staff; helping plan future issues; working closely with the prepress vendor; and supervising a full-time graphic designer.  The magazine staff is creative and committed to producing one of the best magazines of its kind; The Penn Stater has won numerous national awards for writing, design, photography, and illustration.  Magazine experience strongly preferred.  Also essential are a thorough knowledge of four-color process, color correction, prepress, and printing; a sophisticated sense of typography, photography, and illustration; and proficiency in the Adobe CS5 package (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for the Mac.   The ability to prioritize and manage a workload under deadline pressure is essential. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a genuine appreciation for working with diverse audiences.
