POLITICO is seeking a Brussels-based Designer Director to help establish a standard of visual excellence for its European edition, which publishes daily online and weekly in print. A strong eye for photography and experience assigning illustration are essential. Key duties include photo research; coordinating photo shoots; preparing images for print and acting as the key liaison with the printer; and assisting daily design needs for the website. The ideal candidate will be a high energy, natural team player and collaborator who has a relentless attention to detail; ability to take direction and work closely with other members of the team to find the best visual storytelling for our journalism; excellent time-management and organizational skills; knowledge of prepress and print production; and a demonstrated ability to work on deadline. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is essential, HTML/CSS experience is a plus. Ideal candidates should have strong professional experience in both print and digital design at a major magazine, newspaper and/or website. Successful candidates should be able to thrive in a very creative, non-traditional start-up environment.
