We're looking for an intelligent mid-level designer to join our art department. Qualified candidate should have at least 6 years editorial design experience at a consumer magazine (weekly magazine experience preferred); a healthy balance of an independent designer and a collaborate team player; a hunger for topping whatever they just finished designing; and, an unwavering passion for all things NYC. The week-by-week role of the Senior Designer will be to primarily design front-of-book lifestyle sections, along with several other smaller sections; occasionally design features; commission illustrations; collaborate with the art director and photo editor; and, craft content and solutions with editors. As our publication is more than just a magazine, we're seeking more than just an editorial designer. The ideal addition to our team will have the ability to illustrate for themselves if a section requires a quick spot illustration, shooting and editing video, shoot with DSLR cameras, and minor retouching skills. An unwavering passion for and interest in all things NYC is crucial to being successful in this atmosphere; part of what makes this brand flourish is the people who not only love their city, but really know their city and want to share that passion with their readers. The same goes for the art department--if this city inspires and excites you, that vitality should come naturally visually and conceptually. This position reports directly to the Art Director. The Senior Designer will work within a 4-person Art Department, which meets regularly critiquing issues, collaborating on packages, discussing design trends and brainstorming visual concepts for covers, features and photo shoots.
