New York Media is looking for a full-time freelance online photo editor for a new photo-driven web series about celebrities. The photo editor will be responsible for sourcing and creating multiple photo-driven posts daily and maintaining an Instagram account. This is an on-site project with a six-month contract. We are looking for someone who can work independently to build upon and execute our vision. Relevant skills include:
• A keen curatorial eye for funny, surprising and newsworthy images
• Familiarity with current celebrities and their relative position in various media ecosystems, from supermarket tabloids to Tumblr
• A thorough grasp of celebrity photo agencies/archives/photographers
• Experience editing, negotiating and licensing photography for web and social media platforms
• An inventive mind, a sense of humor, and ability to spot trends in photos
• Understanding of what makes an image go viral
• Ability to work rapidly and juggle multiple threads simultaneously
