Executive Art Director

McMURRY/TMG, the nation's largest, independent full-service content marketing agency, is seeking a wildly talented senior art director with top-notch magazine design, art-team management, and new-business pitching skills for our Phoenix office. You will be responsible for designing a mix of print magazines, digital media, and other content marketing projects for our nationally renowned clients. Experience in luxury, travel, weddings, jewelry, and food content design is a strong plus. Duties also include managing an amazing team of art directors and holding high the bar on creative execution to ensure our work is bold, beautiful, strategic, exceeds our clients' expectations, and wins lots of design awards. We are looking for someone with top-notch people skills, as this position will be responsible for inspiring greatness from and managing the quality and work schedules of a team of managing art directors and the art directors who report to them. Management duties include inspiring the team, tracking design and technology trends, mentoring, hiring, training, organizing quality reviews and feedback, goal setting, managing workflow best practices, and more. This position will play a key leadership role in our Phoenix office and work in partnership with executive art directors across our three other national offices to drive innovation and collaboration, as well as share design ideas, best practices, and staff resources. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Work closely with in-house editorial teams and clients to brainstorm and conceptualize the original visual direction of magazines, websites, apps, and other content marketing creative media products. • Partner with editorial leads to ensure our designs reflect the best strategies and outcomes. • Brilliantly design department and feature stories, commission and art direct high-level illustrations and photo shoots, produce beautifully designed magazine pages--with stunning typography, imagery, and attention to detail. • Articulate design clearly in a team environment for your team and clients, as well as in new-business pitches. • Oversee and/or participate in redesigns and prototypes. • Create original strategically focused designs, carrying designs through, researching or commissioning and purchasing images and working directly with clients on the realization of their products (which may include leadership of a design team to that end). • Help price and scope new-business opportunities. • Adhere to established schedules and processes for the movement of materials from concept through download. • Manage and adhere to established art budgets. • Coordinate hiring and workflow.

Designer 1

Designer 1 A Designer 1 is responsible for planning and designing pages for print products in the Phoenix Design Studio. Some digital design may be involved. Designers will also be responsible for special design projects, as assigned, and for producing art/graphics and/or designing pages that adhere to legal, ethical and quality standards. Responsibilities & Requirements •Must be able to communicate fluently in English since most products that will be assigned will be produced in English, which requires the individual to understand the language in order to create appropriate designs. •Must have design skills using design software to include InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. •Must have experience producing simple to moderately complex designs that are creative, appealing, accurate, etc. •Ability to lay out pages that are proportioned, balanced and aesthetically pleasing. •Understanding of the print process and ability to produce visual elements in accordance with print standards. •Ability to plan, organize, identify problems and correct issues related to page flow under the pressure of deadlines and in a noisy environment. •Ability to be creative. •Sound grammar, spelling and punctuation skills. •Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment. •Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 1 year page and/or graphic design experience is preferred. •Experience in a newspaper setting is desired. Tablet-magazine designer

"AZ," an interactive tablet magazine powered by The Arizona Republic, azcentral.com and 12 News, is seeking a dynamic designer with an eagerness to explore the storytelling possibilities of the tablet medium. The designer will be one of two working on a weekly (soon twice-weekly) tablet magazine, with responsibilities including designing 8-12 features a week and working with editors to conceptualize the best visual approach on stories covering news, business, features and sports. Candidates must be skilled in InDesign using a DPS platform; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and Photoshop, is preferred. Illustration, infographic and map skills are crucial, as are a positive attitude and enthusiastic work ethic. The ability to stay cool under fast-turnaround deadlines is key. Strong candidates will also possess social-media skills and be plugged into tablet and app trends. Knowledge of AP style and a strong dislike of hyphens masquerading as em dashes are a bonus. Design team leader

Gannett's Phoenix Design Studio is looking for a team leader to manage production of two newspapers (and their related products) and supervise the work of 10-12 designers. Candidates must have prior newspaper experience, managing deadlines, conceptualizing work and directing the efforts of others. Management experience is preferred, but not mandatory for the right candidate. Our mantra is to work hard, have fun, be creative and bring energy each day.
