In September 2009, photographer
Platon began
a project to photograph world leaders, documenting the familiar and not-so-familiar faces of world power at the beginning of the era of our Great Recession. As
the New Yorker described it, it was "a five-day-long improvisation, with Platon doing his best to lure the likes of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and Muammar Qaddafi to his camera..." Platon's new book,
Power: Portraits of World Leaders gathers these images, together with an introduction from David Remnick, editor of
