Judith Puckett-Rinella launches Whisper Editions

Judith Puckett-Rinella has made her mark as a successful Photo Director for titles like Vanity Fair and T, The New York Times Style Magazine.  Now, she uses her prowess for her own venture, Whisper Editions, launching Monday, September 30th.  Judith provides some insight on her unique approach to offering exclusivity from prominent artists and creatives that we love:

Whisper Editions collaborates with an exclusive group of artists and designers to produce original works in limited quantities.  Each week, we debut a new offering from our roster of photographers, jewelers, furniture makers, designers, apothecaries, publishers, and other creative luminaries.

Every edition is on sale for one week only.  The collection is carefully selected to be both timeless and timely.

Two BBC Video Shorts on the 'Paperless Paper'

The BBC has posted a short video interview with Dean Baker, manager at Plastic Logic. They're the maker of a super-thin electronic reader due out early next year. The video gives you a good sense of how the (still unnamed) product will look and operate.

"New E-Newspaper Reader Echoes Look of the Paper"

There is a notable piece in the NYtimes today about a new electronic newspaper reader from Plastic Logic due out next year. It seems to be similar in many ways to the Kindle, but larger in size and looks to have the ability to display layouts.

While I don't own a Kindle, I was blown away recently when I sat next to a subway rider using one. The legibility was so good I could even read over his shoulder.

From the article ...

... "Even though we have positioned this for business documents, newspapers is what everyone asks for," Mr. Archuleta said.

The reader will go on sale in the first half of next year. Plastic Logic will not announce which news organization will display its articles on it until the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, when it will also reveal the price.

Remixing Blender

Remixing Blender

If your August has been anything like our August, chances are pretty good you've been drooling over Blender's fabulous redesign, debuting in the Lil' Wayne issue, now on newsstands. (Not coincidentally, you're looking at a sneak-peek at next month's Pussycat Dolls extravaganza.) Dirk Barnett, CD extraordinaire and Vice President of SPD, recently sat down with us for an in-depth look at the how and the why of this music-mag "evolution." Stay tuned for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at his new magazine.
The Drawing Board

The Drawing Board

Folks, as you may have already heard, I've finally found my partner in crime (Judith Pucket-Rinella - Senior Photo Editor, T) to co-host this year's 44th annual competition with yours truly. So it's about that time on our SPD calendar where we'll be joining forces to brainstorm the genius idea/root/theme that will package the quick approaching 44's festivities.

Despite the agony of having to top Scott Dadich and Dirk Barnett's amazing, (and I mean AMAZING) leadership and teamwork during this past Pub 43 as well as the great competitions in the past, our  wheels are turnin', and our feeling's burnin'.

Stay tuned for some sneak peek updates...
