Calling All Student Portfolios! Get Your Review Here! Happening April 9
March Madness is fully here at SPD-U thanks to our recent speaker event, our great sessions at the CMA College Media Convention and of course our terrific Student Design Competition winners (runners-up to be announced soon!). And now the madness is going to take over April too ...

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 9 for our annual Portfolio Review event. You'll get critiques from at least two of our publishing pros, and you'll find out what publication and media art directors are looking for in your work when they're looking to hire. Doesn't matter if your portfolio is finished or still in the works, digital or print ... bring what you've got (details below) and our design superstars will help you figure out what's working and what's not. We'll also show you how you can easily build your own online portfolio using the super easy Wix.com web-builder. Details after the jump.

Student Portfolio Reviews 2014

WHEN:
April 9, 2014  ::  7:00 - 8:30pm

WHERE:
The Wix Lounge
235 W. 23rd St, 8th floor (between 7th & 8th Aves), NYC

(Thanks to our hosts Wix.com for hosting us in their awesome Wix.com Lounge ... it's a FREE coworking space by day and they host tons of great events by night! Don't know Wix? They're an awesome easy-to-use website builder, with tons of customizable templates perfect for building your online portfolio!)

WHO:
For all student levels and recent grads. Space is VERY limited!
Each participant will get reviews from at least 2 of our design pros, as well as the opportunity for hands-on help setting up their own online portfolio.

As a benefit of membership, SPD Student Members get FREE admission.  But you HAVE to reserve your spot by registering here.

For all others: General admission is $15.

You must purchase your ticket or reserve your free member spot no later than 5pm Wednesday, 4/9. We will not be selling tickets at the door and if you're not on our list, you will be denied entry.

WHAT:
Bring your portfolio whether it's finished or still in the works ... you'll get reviews with at least two of our pros. Worried that you don't have enough editorial design work in your book to show? We don't care! Find out why here.

• We prefer to see it in print form or on a tablet device.

• If you have it in print, it doesn't have to be in a finished book: we'll look at printouts or tear sheets and help advise you on how to put the pages together.

• If you have it on your tablet, it doesn't have to be in a finished website or tablet app ... as long as the images are pre-loaded and easy to scroll through, we'll look at them in whatever form you have them, whether it's a PDF or just images in your photo gallery. But you do need them to be pre-loaded and separate from other personal stuff; each review is timed, so if you're wasting time finding your work, that's less time you have for real critique and advice.

• You can bring work on your own laptop only if it's pre-loaded, opened and ready to show. There's no time for loading/opening files, you'll need to provide your own wireless internet access and we won't have any computers there for you to use, so if you want to show us digitally, you must bring your own laptop or tablet device with the files already on it, no thumb drives or CDs.

• In addition, as part of the event, we'll show you how you can build your own portfolio website using Wix.com.
