"Breaking News You Can Use"

We're three weeks from SPD's first Speaker Series event of the fall, "News You Can Use," spotlighting the fast-paced world of newsmagazines and the multitaskers who make print, websites, tablet and mobile apps come to life for TIME, Newsweek and Huffington. It is a world that spins so quickly that we already have some breaking news to report:

Dirk Barnett, Newsweek's CD, will be leaving the magazine to helm a redesign at The New Republic. His replacement at Newsweek will be Lindsay Ballant. In two years at Newsweek Dirk oversaw a redesign, several controversial covers and the launch of an iPad edition. His last day at Newsweek is September 14, four days after the SPD event, and he's agreed to share the stage with D.W. Pine of TIME, Josh Klenert of Huffington and Joe Zeff of Joe Zeff Design to give his perspectives on what it takes to put out a newsmagazine in 2012.

Don't miss it. The event will take place at AOL/Huffington Post, 770 Broadway. Tickets are FREE for members, and going fast.
