Wearing Two Hats: Carlos Zamora
On February 24, SPD and the Society of Illustrators are sponsoring the event Wearing Two Hats: the Double Threat, featuring Illustrators Who Design and Designers Who Illustrate. Moderated by Len Small, art director of Nautilus, the event will feature the multiple talents of Stephen Doyle, Matt Dorfman, Martin Gee, Melinda Beck, Carlos Zamora, and Deanna Donegan. This week we'll be highlighting the panelists' work on the SPD site, along with links to see more of their rich and diverse projects. CARLOS ZAMORA
Carlos sent us this bio as well as recent favorite works he designed and illustrated: "Zamora graduated from Havana Design Institute (ISDi) in 2000 and worked for four years in prestigious cultural organizations in Havana, Cuba. In 2004 he emigrated to Quito, Ecuador and later arrived in the U.S. in 2006. He lives in the 19th century Victorian neighborhood of Lafayette Square near downtown St. Louis, with his wife Juliana, daughters Aitana and Lucía, and a dog named Luna.
His early professional endeavors in Cuba included The Office of Historical Restoration for Old Havana, Alicia Alonso's National Ballet of Cuba, Casa de las Américas, Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and cigar company Habanos S.A. Between 2000 and 2004 he served as art director for the magazines: Opus Habana, Gaceta de Cuba, Anales del Caribe, Cuba en el Ballet and Conjunto.
Currently Zamora works as a creative director at Express Scripts.
His illustrations have been published by the New York Observer, The Boston Globe, Ad Age, American Lawyer and The Wall Street Journal.
Design: AIGA Facing Forward Centennial Show
Carlos Zamora: "AIGA celebrated its centennial at the AIGA National Design Center in New York City by inviting AIGA chapters to customize Real Good chairs. This chair is also an special tribute to the St. Louis Gateway Arch."

Carlos Zamora: "This was my first cover for The New York Observer. Art director Lauren Draper wanted a cover with a modern twist on the old snake oil posters. The hidden snake was a last minute addition to provide a hint of danger into the whole whimsical execution."
