Wearing Two Hats: Martin Gee

Wearing Two Hats: Martin Gee On February 24, SPD and the Society of Illustrators are sponsoring the event Wearing Two Hats: the Double Threat, featuring Illustrators Who Design and Designers Who Illustrate. Moderated by Len Small, art director of Nautilus, the event will feature the multiple talents of Stephen Doyle, Matt Dorfman, Martin Gee, Melinda Beck, Carlos Zamora, and Deanna Donegan. This week we'll be highlighting the panelists' work on the SPD site, along with links to see more of their rich and diverse projects.

MARTIN GEE
Martin Gee sent us this bio as well as recent favorite works he designed and illustrated: "Martin Gee is a Senior Art Director at Time, freelance illustrator and cat whisperer. His path of destruction includes several newspapers and magazines, a website, and concert venue/restaurant chain. He has won an Emmy, awards from a few acronyms (thanks SPD and SOI!) and a fondue set for presentation karaoke/improv. He enjoys everything Star Wars, building Lego robots and living the dream. Martin and Carrie, also a Senior Art Director at Time, were married in front of Van Gogh's "The Starry Night" at MoMa. They reside in Manhattan with their two loafs (aka unemployed cats)."

Martin Gee: "On social media and to my coworkers, it's no secret I'm a huge Star Wars fan and nerd. For Time, I got to design our cover story with Marco Grob's stunning portraits. In the past few months, I've done several Star Wars illustrations for clients including Entertainment Weekly and The San Francisco Chronicle. This latest one for Nautilus, art directed by our moderator Len Small, is about droids and our feelings towards them. It really blows my mind I get paid to do this."
