St. Louis Magazine Seeking Associate Art Director

What we are looking for: This full-time, entry-level designer will report to the Art Director and manage design of the front of the book, some departments and some features for the print edition. He or she will also assist in the creation of advertorial design, circulation materials, promotional/marketing materials and ad design. Responsibilities may include: • Design of editorial sections • Design of some editorial feature stories • Design of materials for circulation, Web, marketing and advertising departments • Assisting the Art Director on photo-shoots and with propping/styling • Conceptualizing and assigning illustration and photography • Stock photo research and art requests

Visual Director (editorial/brand)

Caixin Media is looking for a Visual Director to both oversee art direction and develop the visual identity of its three major titles, Caixin Century and China Reform in Chinese, and Caixin - China Economics & Finance in English. This job is based in Beijing, China. JOB SUMMARY: The Visual Director will work to develop the established visual identity of the magazine and all associated products and platforms. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the continued development of magazine, working with the Editor-in-Chief to develop all individual products. He or she will also be responsible for the regular operations of the magazine, as well as management and development of the art team. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: • Art directing and managing production of Caixin's main titles and their related products (mobile, iPad, etc.) during the regular weekly runs. Involves communicating with editors on how to interpret stories visually, overseeing and improving layouts, and ensuring quality of final product. • Providing creative input for new projects, or improvements on existing products, especially with regard to visual identity. • Developing and monitoring the house style and use of product logos, to maintain consistency across the brand. • Defining design and production standards. • Managing design team, including developing and assessing current staff, or recruiting new staff as necessary. • Recommending freelance designers, photographers and illustrators, and setting policies for working with them.

Freelance Editorial Assistant Art Director

NYC-based editorial art director needed for steady in-house freelance work. We are looking for a well-rounded, motivated designer with excellent communication skills to join our small, fast- paced creative department. The ideal candidate will have a clean, current design aesthetic and the ability to work quickly, efficiently and accurately. A natural curiosity will serve you well, as will the ability to multitask. Solid consumer magazine design experience (4-5 years+) is required. This position has potential to turn full-time for the right candidate. You'll be responsible for designing monthly columns, departments and some features including: stock research, inventive chart/graph creation, and brainstorming ideas to repackage information while maintaining current brand standards. Additionally, you will assist with any tablet page creation as necessary. You should be very familiar with and currently using CS4. This position works directly with the Creative Director. PAPress - Production Prepress Manager

We are looking for a multi-talented individual with excellent Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills. The applicant should understand all aspects of book print production. Michael Kors Creative Services Intern

Candidates must have a strong interest in graphic design, photography, and fashion/styling. The intern needs to be resourceful, responsible and a creative problem-solver. Administrative duties include, but are not limited to printing layouts, scanning images, and updating traffic sheets. Intern must be able to successfully comp and create mock ups. Interns may also have the chance to attend or help style photo shoots. Experience with Photoshop is required. Ideally the intern will commit to at least 2 days a week. Candidates must be able to receive college credit for this internship, whether the internship counts as a class, as extra credit, or as a class project for a particular class that he or she is already enrolled in.

Spring Intern, Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine

Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine is seeking a graphic design student for a spring internship in our Art Department. Candidates should have a passion for magazine design, be well-organized, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Duties will include: updating layouts, scanning art, maintaining walls, assisting in design, attending photo shoots, and handling some administrative tasks. Working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Some tasks may include working with our digital team, so basic knowledge of digital and multi-media formats is a plus. If you have illustration skills or icon design experience, that is also a plus. Applicants must be available 3 days a week (Mon, Tues, Wed) to work in our SoHo New York office. PAPress - Design Intern

This internship is an excellent opportunity to work in a creative team and learn more about book design and the publishing industry. Interns will work in the design department and report to the design director. It is essential that the intern have a very strong typographic sense and conceptual design skills. This Spring internship is available for approximately 10 weeks beginning Monday, March 5th, 2012 and continuing to late May. There is a possibility that this internship could lead to a permanent position. Day-to-day responsibilities (which vary from project to project) include: - Developing and extending book design concepts, including interior layouts and cover designs - Designing and creating marketing materials (both print and digital) - Preparing promotional materials for sales conference and conventions - Preparing books for translation into electronic formats (HTML and CSS) - Assisting with design/editorial corrections and typesetting

Money Magazine - Freelance Art Director

Money Magazine has an opening for a Freelance Art Director for a 12 week period to work on the print and tablet editions of the magazine starting mid February.

What we're looking for:
This mid-level designer will report to the art director and will manage front of the book, departments and some features for both print and tablet editions of the magazine. Responsibilities include design of sections, assigning of illustration, conceptualizing of shoots and the design of charts/graphics/complex data. The ideal candidate is someone who is a strong designer with a great sense of typography and packaging with a passion for magazines and an strong interest in tablet design.
