Editorial Designer (Web and print)

We're looking for a skilled graphic designer with a modern eye, a background in magazine design and production, proven experience creating marketing and sales collateral, and a demonstrated mastery of digital tools and HTML to join the publishing team at the American Marketing Association. PRIMARY PURPOSE AND JOB FUNCTION Responsible for creating the design and production of trade publications at the American Marketing Association. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Create the business news magazine's design and layout through the use of Apple computer equipment and the Adobe Creative Suite. 2. Collaborate closely with the editor in chief to determine how to convey each story visually, following the editor's artistic direction. Revise layouts as requested. 3. Incorporate supplied art, and source and purchase other images to suit story needs. 4. Ensure the consistent representation of the magazine's visual identity, online and off. 5. Ensure that all layouts meet the magazine's standards for style, text flow, alignment, etc. 6. Meet tight deadlines and scheduling parameters; juggle multiple ongoing projects. 7. Work within a cross-functional team of editors and production personnel to ensure timely publication of the magazine. Work cross-functionally with marketing and sales department on assigned collateral materials. 8. Design and produce direct mail, e-mail and other collateral pieces (both digital and print) for advertising, membership, event marketing and subscription needs, including projects such as brochures, media kits and creative promotions. Includes copywriting and message development of collateral pieces. 9. Collaborate with marketing department to ensure adherence to brand standards for all marketing and sales collateral. 10. Create graphic illustrations, photo spreads, charts, graphs, etc., electronically, with some scanning and downloading. 11. Oversee production of assigned projects, including work with outside pre-press and graphics service bureaus. 12. Work with outside suppliers of art and photography from concept through timely delivery of finished product.

Designer - This Old House

This Old House magazine is seeking a Designer to join our editorial team. The position reports to the Design Director, and is responsible for the design and management offront-of-the-book for both the print and tablet versions. The qualified candidate should have strong typographic skills, great attention to detail, a familiarity with illustrations (both conceptual and infographic), and the ability to shape a project from conception to completion in a timely fashion. This individual excels at working both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. An interest in home-improvement is aplus. Coastal Living is a Time Inc. lifestyle magazine, covering home design, decorating, food, entertaining, and travel. We are seeking a designer to join our talented, energetic staff based in Birmingham, Alabama. This key member of the art department should be able to work efficiently to meet firm deadlines, juggle multiple layouts at once, must be detail-oriented, have a strong sense of typography, and be willing to take direction. He or she will be creating dynamic, fresh layouts for all sections of the magazine, and assigning illustration. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of magazine editorial experience. (Candidates with less experience that can demonstrate strong design skills achieved through work and/or internships will be considered.) The designer will report to the magazine's design director and work closely with the senior designer. Expert knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Woodwing is required. Photo Director

Washingtonian Magazine is looking for an energetic, well-organized Photo Director with a passion for visual storytelling to join our team. The ideal candidate will work closely with the editorial, art, and digital teams to guide the selection and presence of strong visuals in the magazine and website, as well as enhance the monthly print magazine with multimedia presentations on the magazine's website and tablet editions. Design Director
