Their print and digital publishing business launches new titles each month using data analytics to identify trending topics with commercial potential. They seek an Art Director with editorial publishing experience to lead a team of creative freelancers to design print and e-book covers and interiors. Responsibilities: Design book covers and interiors on a demanding production schedule Manage freelance creatives including designers, illustrators, typesetters, and photo editors Produce cover mechanicals and print-ready files Create and apply design templates for book interiors Collaborate closely with editorial and design colleagues Review and approve finished design work Additional design, production and administrative tasks as required Assist with E-Book design & production Requirements: Minimum three years experience as Art Director or Senior Designer Demonstrated excellence in editorial design, ideally in Trade Book publishing Conceptual thinker who applies creative skills to communicate ideas Sophisticated understanding of typography and typesetting process Thorough knowledge of print production requirements for publishing Strong verbal and written communication skills Able to work on multiple projects, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Highly organized with great attention to detail Collaborative team player who also works independently and takes initiative Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) Print design background is required, E-Book design is a plus Bachelors degree or equivalentFreelance Art Director/Lead Designer
Southern California-based fashion & lifestyle magazine seeks an experienced freelance Art Director/Lead Designer (potential for transition to staff position in near future).
