Digital Design Intern

Redbook Magazine Art Department Intern (Winter & Spring)

REDBOOK magazine (Hearst Publications) is seeking energetic graphic design college students for an internship in the Art Department for the Winter semester with a possibility of continuing into Spring. Accepting applications now. This is an unpaid internship with a commitment of at least 2 days a week, 10AM to 6PM; however, there is flexibility for this to be a full working-week schedule. Students must be able to receive college credit in exchange for their time here. The intern will support the art team and have first-hand experience working on the magazine. Photo Director

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is seeking a Photo Director to serve as a creative partner and collaborator for the Editors in Chief and Creative Directors of Martha Stewart Living's magazines and books, and ensure a consistent photographic identity for the brand. Responsibilities: • Oversee the production and scheduling of all photography for publishing, in collaboration with the art department, stylists, and story teams. • Manage the team of photo editors, producers, and in-house photographers. • Attend creative review meetings and ensure the photographic direction is being communicated clearly to photo editors and to photographers being assigned. • Ensure photo shots are being produced on budget, on time, and in a thorough and efficient manner. • Oversee the monthly photo shoot calendars and story budgets for the content group. • Produce shoots, from start to finish, along with the team; work directly with Martha Stewart to plan her shoots. • Attend concept meetings and contribute visual solutions to stories. Seek out and pitch new photographers. • Negotiate terms with photographers, illustrators, and agents; book photographers; and track final invoices against estimates. • Manage the invoicing processes and procedures, including approvals, coding, and resolving discrepancies between photographers, vendors and accounting. • Work with Studio Manager daily to allocate studio space in all in-house shoots. Research and book outside studio locations when necessary.

Digital Designer

This position will report to the Lead designer. Will work closely with a team of designers to create short form visual animated graphics that furthers the story telling, and brand standards. Family Circle Junior Designer

An ideal candidate for the junior designer position will have a BA in graphic design or other design related field, and have some experience working at a publication either as a paid position or internship. As junior designer your duties will include attending art department meetings to discuss visual approaches to stories, working closely with other members of the art and photo departments to design front of book and department pages, circulating layouts and assisting with administrative tasks such as sending out and filing contracts. We have a small department and all share the day to day responsibilities of putting out a magazine as well as being involved in social media aspects of our brand. ESPN: Snapchat Discover Editions Designer

Freelance/Project (6 months)

This is a fun mid-level gig for a designer who can bring HUGE design skillz to a tiny phone screen! The main focus of this position will be the daily creation of our Snapchat content within Discover but includes the opportunity to shape ESPN's growth among all our social media channels. While ESPN is headquartered in sunny Bristol Connecticut, we may be able to accommodate a partially remote candidate given our daily support of the platform (including weekends)
 
With that daily content creation, the designer will be actively collaborating with editorial leads on strong visual storytelling surrounding each concept. The designer will be responsible for working within the ESPN branding guidelines to ensure the content is consistent but they will be expected to bring platform appropriate creativity and personality to the editions. They will need to have strong communication, and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of excellent time management. This role requires a lightening quick designer with excellent small screen design sensibilities. They need a portfolio that showcases their chops as a typographer, animator and includes a strong understanding of social media design best practices.
 
Responsibilities
• Collaborating daily with editorial leads to drive the visual storytelling experience for ESPN's Snapchat channel.
• Creating unique animated "top snaps" and supporting the design of the "below the fold experience"
• Approaching each individual story with a keen design eye for visual hierarchy and strong typography.
