Billboard Design Intern

Billboard magazine is seeking a paid design intern to work two days a week in our New York City office. Roles include: laying out templated pages, creating graphics for our web rollouts and social pages, help organize our list of illustrators. We are looking for someone who could start mid-July.

Associate Art Director-Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings

Under the direction of the Design Director, this position conceptualizes, art directs and designs the assigned pages for each magazine issue of Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings. The Associate AD works seamlessly with editors and stylists and photographers to create content that is within the visual direction of the magazine to make choices that maintain the creative vision, brand, and standard of quality. This position interacts with editors, stylists, the photography and production departments in addition to many outside freelance creatives. Packaging design and branding experience a plus. Essential Job Functions 40% Designs assigned pages each month in cooperation with department heads and Design Director 40% Concepts and art directs photo shoots in cooperation with stylists and photographers 10% Evaluates quality of page proofs and works with production manager to correct as needed. 10% Interfaces with Copy Editors and Editors to ensure type specifications are consistent and the copy fits and visually tells the story.

Associate Art Director

Atlanta Magazine is looking for an Associate Art Director, who will be part of a four-person creative team responsible for the overall look of the magazine brand. The Associate Art Director, who will report to the Design Director, will work closely with photographers and editors in conceiving and executing visually inviting and provocative designs for all of our platforms, but primarily the print edition. S/he will also be proactive in pitching ideas for the magazine. Additionally, part of the job will involve designing marketing collateral and creating branding for magazine events. We're looking for someone who is well-versed in editorial design, able to conceptualize compelling visual treatments for stories, and eager to learn about Atlanta. 

Job responsibilities include: 
 * Working with the edit team in planning out section content and art elements. 
 * Collaborating with the Design Director. 
 * Designing marketing materials 
 * Clearly communicating assignments to contributing photographers, illustrators and graphic artists 
 * Finding ways to tell stories graphically and in unconventional and non-linear ways

Art Director, Men's Health

Rodale seeks a highly creative and collaborative Art Director to join the Men's Health team in our New York City office. This position requires superb design skills, an eye for typography, a flexible disposition and the ability to work creatively with editorial and photo teams. Art/Design Department Summer Intern

Editorialist is looking for Summer design interns who will be ready to begin by the end of May. As a part of an exciting start-up, this internship will provide a great deal of hands on experience while working closely with the Directors and the design team. This candidate should have a strong work ethic and a great attention to detail. Interns will be exposed to different areas of the digital magazine and e-commerce site, including graphic design, photography/art direction, social media/marketing, fashion editorial, features editorial, and e-commerce work.


FULLTIME FREELANCE EDITORIAL DESIGNER

We are looking for a full time, on-site freelance designer to help us with ongoing editorial assignments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as well as great warmth, patience and attention to detail with our clients. Position could become staff in time. You will work with senior staff, managing projects from start to end (pre-press/production/press checks). There is also a great deal of production and management skills involved. We are a small shop, and need a team member that has an ability to anticipate needs and proactively resolve issues. Clients and projects range from designing corporate newsletters, custom content for major magazines to financial and annual reports. Required software skills include strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator). Must be within a commutable distance to our Manhattan office location. This position requires you to work on site, Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 5:30pm. Pay rate is $25. per hour.

TEMPORARY SENIOR DESIGNER

Cooking Light is seeking a temporary Senior Designer to fill in for our current Senior Designer who will be out on maternity leave (mid-July to mid-October). He or she will work on all sections of the magazine from the feature well to the department pages and will also be tasked with reviewing and approving color for main magazine and special editions. The Senior Designer will be expected to design pages in a fast-paced environment under firm deadlines. He/she will also art direct photo shoots on set and approve images for their assigned stories. He/she must work closely with the editors to create a layout that fulfills the editorial requirements, fits the look and feel of the magazine and fulfills the Creative Director¹s instructions. The Senior Designer must be meticulous with typography and creative with their layouts as well as fast enough to keep the magazine on schedule. An interest in and experience with food is a plus. Must have experience assigning illustrations as well as enjoying coming up with concepts to fit the stories. This person will be responsible for guiding assigned stories through the entire design/production process (visual concept, image choice, layout, print orders, color correction). The work schedule is generally 9:30-6. Proficiency in InDesign and editorial magazine experience is a must. Knowledge of Woodwing (or a similar system) is preferred. The position is located in Birmingham, AL but open to designers who are interested in temporarily relocating.

Art Assistant, New York Magazine

The job entails supporting the print magazine's design team in all capacities and serving as general assistant to the Design Director. Responsibilities include filing invoices and expenses, maintaining a flash sheet, collecting and distributing manuscripts, commissioning illustrations, maintaining archives, mailing issues, scheduling meetings, ordering meals, researching visual ideas for upcoming stories, maintaining the mini board of the issue, fulfilling various administrative tasks, and running the occasional errand.
