Mother Jones is looking for a highly motivated designer to join its creative team. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and collaborator with strong organizational skills and a passion for graphic design. Reporting to the Creative Director, this position works directly with business, production, and editorial departments on various print and digital projects. This is a hands-on design role responsible for executing creative design for ad sales, membership projects, and development projects. When time permits, the designer will also work on stories for print and web. This position is based in our San Francisco office; working remotely is not an option.
Major Responsibilities
▪ Design and update sales and membership marketing materials such as one-sheets, decks, media kits, direct mail, special projects, and other marketing materials for print and web
▪ Work with sales and membership teams to review designs or create custom-designed ads for clients as needed
▪ Work on various web projects, such as email blasts, newsletters, website overlays, and advertisements
▪ Design other in-house projects for the organization, such as brochures and house ads for the publication and website, working directly with the department initiating the project
▪ Initiate, develop, and research ideas for visual sections of the magazine and website
▪ When time permits, edit photos and design pages for departments and occasional features
▪ Establish good relationships with all departments--clear communication and project management is essential--and discuss the visual direction of each project with a supervisor, keeping the department initiating the project informed of changes and working with them throughout the entire process
▪ Stay aware of design trends and ideas and work with the Creative Director to keep the design fresh and current; redesign as necessary
▪ Other department duties as assigned by a supervisor
