Mother Jones, Designer


Mother Jones is looking for a highly motivated designer to join its creative team. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and collaborator with strong organizational skills and a passion for graphic design. Reporting to the Creative Director, this position works directly with business, production, and editorial departments on various print and digital projects. This is a hands-on design role responsible for executing creative design for ad sales, membership projects, and development projects. When time permits, the designer will also work on stories for print and web. This position is based in our San Francisco office; working remotely is not an option.



Major Responsibilities

Design and update sales and membership marketing materials such as one-sheets, decks, media kits, direct mail, special projects, and other marketing materials for print and web

Work with sales and membership teams to review designs or create custom-designed ads for clients as needed

Work on various web projects, such as email blasts, newsletters, website overlays, and advertisements

Design other in-house projects for the organization, such as brochures and house ads for the publication and website, working directly with the department initiating the project

Initiate, develop, and research ideas for visual sections of the magazine and website

When time permits, edit photos and design pages for departments and occasional features

Establish good relationships with all departments--clear communication and project management is essential--and discuss the visual direction of each project with a supervisor, keeping the department initiating the project informed of changes and working with them throughout the entire process

Stay aware of design trends and ideas and work with the Creative Director to keep the design fresh and current; redesign as necessary

Other department duties as assigned by a supervisor

Harper's Bazaar Art/Design Fall Internship

Harper's Bazaar magazine is offering unpaid internships in the Art/Design Department to dedicated students for the Fall semester of 2016. Applicants must be able to receive academic credit for the internship. Interns should have working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop. They should also be familiar with design terminology, fashion jargon, as well as some knowledge of the key photographers, artists, and influencers in the industry. 

Some processes you will learn will be: organizing the art flow, updating the "book" & "mini" wall for the Editor-in-Chief, and how to design front of book pages.

Esquire: Photo Internship

Esquire Magazine is seeking an enthusiastic Photo Intern to join their team. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting in photo research, sourcing props for photo shoots, and light administrative work. There may be opportunities to assist on set.

This internship is for college credit ONLY.  Please apply only if you are eligible for college credit. Applicants should be able to commit to a minimum of 3 full days/week, starting at the end of August through early December.

Graphic Designer, Innovation & Ad Marketing

Freelance Designer, WIRED

WIRED is looking for a freelance designer to assist with our Brand Lab team on the advertising side (NOT editorial). The freelance position would be from September - December for 4 to 5 days a week. The ideal candidate should have 4+ years of experience in the professional world. Projects include designing marketing, branding, and experiential event collateral, as well as digital and print units. The designer should be able to take ideas from concept to execution, be comfortable with production (print and digital) and collaborate well with a team. This position is in an extremely fast-paced environment where prioritization, communication, and organizational skills are essential. Designer, Science Digital Media

Science's award-winning Digital Media Design group has an immediate opening for a highly motivated designer to join its creative team. The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller with a strong typographic sensibility and a sharp eye for detail. Reporting to the Design Director, this position works directly with editors, writers, and the photo and graphics teams in a fast-paced editorial environment. Associate Creative Director

Freelance Publication Designer

NYLON Fall 2016 Design/Photo Intern

Job Description: NYLON is looking for a Digital Design/Photo Intern. Art/Design Department Fall Intern
