Photo Director

The Village Voice is looking for a Photography Director who is a strong leader and is excited at the prospect of building a team and exploring new platforms. Senior Art Director at Avon North America

The Senior Art Director will be part of the team that produces the creative for the North American brochure, as well as the Avon Living magalog and future projects 
This position reports to the ACD and works in collaboration with the Marketing group to bring creative briefs from concept to reality. 

This position requires strong typography and layout skills, the ability to see big picture strategy and apply it to even the small details, and to make decisions quickly and thoughtfully.

He/She must have the ability and experience to concept, organize and direct a photoshoot from start to finish.  A background in lifestyle and home is a plus. This position also requires someone who embraces collaboration, and is passionate about home, fashion, beauty, and style.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Design and art direct category and story shoots as guided by the ACD and ECD
•    Collaborate with copy department on concepts and best ways to tell a story
•    Manage day-to-day design and revisions of core campaigns
•    Act as liaison to marketing/campaign mgmt departments in terms of brochure and product flow
•    Review and approve photo retouching

Requirements:

•    8+ years of experience in home/beauty/fashion/media industries 
•    Keen interest and knowledge of home goods, fashion, beauty, media and design trends
•    Modern, relevant graphic design and typography skills
•    Experience in both model and product photography art direction strongly preferred, or expertise in either

Assistant Photo Editor

Reader's Digest needs an Assistant Photo Editor based out of our White Plains, NY office just outside of Manhattan. Under the Photography Director you would be acquiring and editing photos as well as shooting original images for Reader's Digest magazine, website and social media sites. Responsibilities: -Shooting original photography for print and rd.com -Retouching in house images and marking up images for retouching -Photo studio and prop closet management -Photo production for front of book departments -Stock research and licensing -Organizing caption and credit information -Booking travel for photographers and subjects -Attaining model releases from all subjects -On set production assistance -Tracking of monthly photo budgets and estimates -Managing contracts, W-9s, invoices from photographers and other vendors -Sending out issues and tear-sheets -Occasional scanning -Pulling swipe for monthly art brainstorming meetings -Sourcing and purchasing props for in-house shoots Experience: 1-2 years experience in an editorial photo department and shooting photography. Knowledge of Canon/DSLR equipment, strobe lighting equipment, photo research, large format scanning, photo archiving both physically and digitally, retouching, color correction, resizing images and file management. Knowledge of current editorial photographers, styles and lighting techniques. Videography and video editing experience a plus. Education: BA in photography, or equivalent.

Art Director

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a lead art director for its award-winning weekend Off Duty section. Must have an impeccable design aesthetic and outstanding typographic skills. Must be able to take conceptual ideas and using photos, graphics and illustrations tell stories visually. Must be able to work closely and seamlessly with editors and other visual team members. The ideal candidate will be creative, a collaborator and an innovator. The art director will own the stories for all publishing platforms. Must have outstanding organizational skills and be able to multitask, working on multiple editions simultaneously. Proven ability working with lifestyle content a definite plus. The art director must be capable of completing pages according to specifications of the weekly advertising edition plan. Will also be required to present stories in accordance with the well-established high-standards of the global WSJ. Responsible for meeting all edition deadlines and ensuring the maintenance of quality assurance. Candidate should be able to work in both Macintosh and PC operating systems. Software Requirements: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat. Experience with EidosMedia's Methode system a plus. Candidate should have five to ten years experience or equivalent in newspaper or magazine design. Proven ability to work as a member of a team under deadline a must.

Urgent Freelance Publication Designer Needed

Manifest seeks an enthusiastic and energetic Designer to join the editorial Art Department in our NYC studio. The Designer will help evolve and maintain the visual direction of editorial design through layout, exceptional typography and handling/production of hi and low resolution photography. Design/Video Internship - AFAR magazine

AFAR magazine is looking for an Intern to assist the Art department. Duties include, but are not limited to, design and production for front-of-book stories, short form video production/editing and assisting Art Director, Creative Director and the department with daily responsibilities. Candidates must be detail oriented, digitally proficient, organized, have a strong interest in design, video and typography, and have a positive attitude. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop is required and experience with video editing software is preferred. This paid internship is part-time only (3-4 days per week) and located in San Francisco.
