Art Director - Popular Mechanics

Popular Mechanics is looking for a self-reliant art director to help define the visual voice of the magazine. We are looking for someone with a very distinct graphic style, the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment, and the skills to lead by example. Strong conceptual skills are a must. The ability to collaborate with the edit and photo team is crucial to this role. Our work environment is highly critical and ever-changing, so it is important that the candidate is very flexible. This position is also open to getting involved with video and motion projects.

Daily Responsibilities:
Coming up with big visual ideas.
Layout and design of features and some FOB pages.
Collaborating with edit and photo dept.
Art directing shoots.
Communicating technical information to illustrators.
Communicating the vision of the design director to junior members of the team.
Following through with retouching via the imaging specialists.
Adding a distinct visual style to the overall look of the magazine.

Requirements:
3-5 years of experience as an art director at major print publication

Assists in the daily tasks of the art department including design of pages, invites and social media. Print Production Designer - Bloomingdale's

The role of this position is to manage projects within the production design process across the following departments: Men's, Home, Kids, Outlet, Registry and Storewide Sale. Some retouching and color correcting experience is preferred but not required. Essential Functions: • Organize manage and design direct mail, newspaper, magazine, special projects and some digital work from concept, research and design through file ship. • Partner with Project Planning, Quality Control, Retouchers, Copywriters and Art Directors to design for Catalogs, ROP and Direct Mail for print. • Maintain milestone deadlines and communication with creative and production staffs within marketing. • Operate proofing devices, ordering materials and maintaining service contract. • Re-link all hi-res and output proofs for retouching department. • Support with managing image assets, make final proofs and prep all jobs for shipping. • Maintain layout specs including bleed, trim, high-res imagery, color space, job slugs and file management. • Assist Art Directors needs by project basis.

Entry Level / Junior Designer

St. Louis Media has a new opportunity for an entry level or junior designer. This position will act as an under-study to our award-winning Art Department. Our new designer will be given the opportunity to learn and hone their craft and skills across a broad range of projects including digital advertisements and newsletters, sales and marketing collateral, event collateral, front of book and back of book editorial pages, and custom media, such as annual reports and special interest books. We are interested in creative candidates with a passion for design, typography, photography, and illustration. ESPN W, Social Designer (Remote, Freelance)

espnW is looking for a highly motivated social designer to work remotely with the lead social editor and senior design staff. The ideal candidate will be highly creative and collaborative when solving design problems within the espnW brand and eager to innovate within the brands multiple social platforms. The designer must have impeccable design aesthetic and exceptional typography skills. A strong presence in the social environment is a must (including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). They will produce rich media for use on espnW's social platforms, including quote tiles, milestone graphics, result graphics, new fb/twitter header art, animated gifs, Instagram stories, p-roll videos with words/animations, any original images for big events (ex.: Serena's 23 grand slam titles), Tuesday Trivia, Facebook Live, social account take-over graphics.
 
Job Requirements and Skills:
Qualified candidates must have 4+ years of experience working within the field of print and digital design, and possess the following characteristics:
Must have a strong understanding of typography
Strong layout and production skills
Clean and modern design aesthetic that works within the espnW brand
Experience in social media presences (including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
Able to manage a fast paced environment
A positive and upbeat attitude when working with team members
Self-motivated, a natural problem-solver, and a good communicator with a demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, both independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Intimate knowledge of Mac and general PC knowledge
Understanding of working within a digital environment

Responsibilities
Pitch, prototype and develop innovative storytelling features for both timely news stories and longer term projects.
Develop advanced handwritten front-end code that follows web standards.
Establish and maintain relationships with editors and other content partners.
Follow established ESPN style guides.

Basic Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have 4+ years of experience working within the field of web design, and possess the following characteristics:
Must have an advanced knowledge in typography, design hierarchy, data visualization and layout.

Spring 2017 Art Intern

Looking for a SPRING 2017 Art Intern, starting April 3, 2017 through June 2, 2017. Assist Design Director and Art Directors in our busy art department to develop our award winning monthly city magazine. Layout design, photo research, typeface research, illustration research, idea conceptualization, photo retouching, photo shoots, department organization, etc. are examples of daily tasks. Intern will also attend staff meetings. This is an unpaid internship but can receive school credit if needed. Free parking.
