ESPN: Director of Photography - Digital

We are seeking Director of Photography/Digital to lead content, product and social photography across all digital platforms and devices. This leader will be responsible for defining all photo initiatives and strategies for and its various domestic and international editions.  This position is located at the home of ESPN: sunny Bristol CT.

We expect this individual to work hand in hand with our digital content team, print creative group, social team, design and product teams, guiding the use of photography across all digital platforms. This candidate should have a deep passion for sports photography, and should have experience with, and a curiosity around, current digital products, trends, software, platforms and hardware and how all of those can inform and impact ESPN's approach to photography.

• Defines efficient processes around workflow, automation, curation, original content and story creation
• Defines and elevates the role that photography plays at ESPN, and participates in the creation of product features in native and responsive digital products.
• Oversees and executes original photo illustrations and treatments that serve to define our brand.
• Oversee digital photo production.
• Defines and implements style guides and usage guidelines for photography.
• Coordinates efforts and communicates effectively outside of the digital media environment, including Broadcast, Marketing, and Ad Sales.
• Plays a role in the creation or adoption of internal photo tools both in and out of the CMS workflow.
• Leads, manages and oversees the digital photography team in support of a 24/7 sports news cycle
• Drives and creates visual content storytelling through curation, research, or assignments.
• Elevates the brand of ESPN through photo partnerships and initiatives in the greater sports environment.
• Understands photography's role in mobile metrics and how to create visual assets in the service of maximizing performance
• Negotiates deals with agency partners, maintains strong working relationships with agency partners, and seeks out new opportunities around original photography, content feeds and automation.
• Understands and manages our league partnerships and photo rights deals, foster relationships with teams, leagues, events, and players in order to maximize our access and the content available to us.
• Involved in daily production and editorial planning.
• Manages costs and budgets
• Aligns photo resources to support overall ESPN priorities
• Has strong communication and leadership skills
• Oversee all digital photo organization systems.

• At least 8 years of photo editing experience, at least 5 years experience leading photography curation and assignments in a content driven digital media sports environment, and at least 3 years managing a team of people.
experience with live event photography
• Deep understanding of digital photo technology and how to apply that knowledge to improve our processes and products
• Experience leading and managing photo editing teams
• Experience conceptualizing, curating and executing relevant photo driven content in stories and galleries.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with video
• Experience with content strategies on social platforms at scale, including facebook, twitter, instagram and snap chat.

Hemispheres Magazine- Design Intern

Now accepting applications for summer 2012. Candidates should have an interest in magazine publishing, be focused on a degree in graphic design and all internships MUST be for credit.  You will have real, published work to put in your portfolio as a result of your experience here. Must be competent in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to be considered for this position. 

Deputy Art Director - Cooking Light

Cooking Light is the largest epicurean magazine in the US and is owned by Time Inc. It has been undergoing a brand transformation for over a year which has been received very well by its audience. The perfect candidate for this spot will have a love and understanding of food and food photography. He or she will be an enthusiastic team player as we operate out of two offices, one in NYC and one in Birmingham, AL. They will also have excellent typographic and conceptual skills to create delightful and informative editorial. The deputy will be working very closely with the Creative Director and the Photo director in NYC.

Deputy responsibilities include:
-Design most features well stories from concept through to production with informative and delightful design solutions.
-Photo art direction of some stories
-Design some front and back of book pieces on a regular basis
-Assign illustration
-Point person for all layouts leading up to and during the close cycle between NYC and BHAM
-Work closely with production dept in Birmingham on paging and story lengths for pagination, as well as general continual updates?
-The Deputy AD, along with the whole team is expected to pitch in on other projects when necessary
-Deputy must possess full knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Woodwing
