Spring Intern - Washington Post Express

The Washington Post Express is excited to announce its first full-time design internship for spring 2013. We're looking for an eager, well-rounded visual journalism student who's as much a great storyteller as he/she is a stellar designer to join our small newsroom (23) and even smaller visual team (4) for five months (January-May) to gain real daily news design experience and insight into all aspects of a mid-sized metro daily newspaper (180K Monday-Friday circ). The ideal candidate for this position is currently pursuing a journalism degree with a concentration in news design/presentation and has demonstrated experience through student or professional media. You'll be asked to do both pagination and create spot illustration solutions on a daily basis, so show us you're a well-rounded designer who can think on your feet and move from news to sports to features in the span of a few hours. We work in InDesign, and knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator is a must. You'll work full-time, Sunday-Thursday at our downtown DC office. We'll provide a stipend for the semester as well as a transportation (Metro) benefit. Send us your resume, link to a portfolio or 8-10 samples of your best work, and a cover letter explaining your visual journalism background and what you'll contribute to our team beyond your design abilities. Remember, we're looking for the best VISUAL JOURNALIST with a diversity of experience. *This is not a graphic design internship.* Send materials and questions by e-mail only, no post mail please, to Adam Griffiths at adam.griffiths@wpost.com by November 15, 2012. We will ideally respond and select a candidate by the end of November.
