Motion Graphic Designer / Graphics Operator (Contract)

BuzzFeed News is looking for an experienced and dynamic motion graphics designer who has an understanding of broadcast graphics to work on our new daily morning show on Twitter. In conjunction with the lead motion graphic designer and design director you'll help us define and execute the on-screen experience for viewers on a daily basis. You'll work on taking our core graphics suite (lower thirds, transitions, bumpers, on screen graphics, etc.), ingesting them into our system and bring them up and down on-screen. You'll also help add graphics into daily sizzle reels and making clips for social. As well as designing elements from time to time. Successful candidates will have an interest in news, command of typography and hierarchy, a proven track record of creating graphics for TV or webcasting, are organized, enjoy a tight deadline, are a team player and enjoy working in an ever evolving format. This is a short-term role starting in early September and continuing through mid-October with the potential to extend.

Photo Editor, News (LA)

Buzzfeed News is looking for an energetic and hard working full-time Photo Editor in our Los Angeles office. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the newsroom, mobile web and social web environments and how photos travel on multiple platforms. You would be a part of small, face-paced art department within the newsroom. You will play an integral part in the editorial process from sourcing appropriate imagery to assigning reportage, feature and entertainment photography. Primary Responsibilities: Doing deep photo research and processing strong images for all Buzzfeed platforms. Working with our editors and writers to secure permissions and contacts for assigned stories. Collaborating with the rest of the news art dept to source / assign / photograph striking and sharable imagery. Produce entertainment / celebrity related shoots as well as art direct on set. Assign and manage freelance photographers as needed. Writing and editing captions, process images for output, light retouching, and managing metadata Provide immediate photo coverage of large-scale news events and breaking news situations. Pitch and post photo stories and concepts. Who you are: A self-motivated visual storyteller with a deep love for photography, photographers and the image making process. Someone's who's detail-oriented and comfortable balancing a variety of assignments (large and small). Has an editorial background and interest in creating powerful imagery to tell news stories on mobile as well as social platforms. Someone who is deeply resourceful and takes great pride and satisfaction in delivering that perfect image that isn't everywhere.
