The Creative Services team supports publishing efforts at Medium by producing thoughtful and captivating editorial content. We launch publications, design stories, and help bring to life the ideas of our award-winning editors and writers. We push the Medium platform by experimenting with new forms of digital storytelling and online publications.
What is the role?
Creative Services is looking for a Senior Designer for our San Francisco office to work alongside our team to brand and design editorial content for Medium publications. This role will assist in the art direction and design of stories, as well as create distinct visual identities that differentiate the voice, tone, and personality of our expanding list of Medium-produced publications.
Responsibilities include shaping storytelling by conceptualizing and crafting compelling design layouts, as well as creating and commissioning art, including illustration, photography, animation, infographics, video, and interactive elements.
By working closely with writers, photo editors, and freelance contributors, the Senior Designer will help establish systems and workflows while creating a productive, creative, and mindful day-to-day work environment.
What skills are we looking for?
Minimum of three years of professional experience in art direction and design at an agency, studio, or national web and/or print publication. Passionate about storytelling and a desire to innovate in web publishing.
You bring together an expertise in editorial design, an eye for beautiful typography, and a strong understanding of user experience and responsive design. Your tools are Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud software. Basic skills in HTML and CSS are a plus.
