Tenure-Track Faculty, Assistant or Associate Professor of Illustration

Massachusetts College of Art and Design is seeking an accomplished artist/educator to join our growing illustration program to fill a full-time tenure-track position beginning in the Fall of 2016 at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Our curriculum emphasizes the practice of drawing and painting from observation, in order to acquire depth of understanding beyond surface, and advance the development of personal voice. Since illustrators work with a wide range of media, we are looking for a flexible artist with professional expertise in any of the following areas: drawing and painting, printmaking, experimental and 3D work, narrative work of all kinds, as well as a working knowledge of current practices in digital media. Responsibilities: In addition to teaching 12 credits (currently three 4 credit) courses per semester, the faculty member will be expected to participate in student advising, curriculum development, committee work, various departmental activities and student reviews. An ideal candidate will be qualified to teach a variety of courses within the major, serve as an enthusiastic mentor, assist students in preparation for post-graduate experience and potentially teach on the graduate level. We also seek someone who will broaden the department's professional presence beyond the college community and issues of diversity. Established in 1873, Massachusetts College of Art was the first and remains the only freestanding public college of art and design in the United States. The college is nationally known for offering broad access to a quality professional arts education, accompanied by a strong general education in the liberal arts. A major cultural force in Boston, MassArt offers public programs of award winning, acclaimed exhibitions, lectures, and events. Starting date is September 2016. Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits. Massachusetts College of Art and Design is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Members of under-represented groups and those committed to working in a diverse cultural environment are encouraged to apply. Review of applications will begin on Thursday, December 31, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled.
