Creative Director, CSP Business Media

The Creative Director of CSP Business Media will be responsible for differentiating all of the company's publications through extraordinary page designs, artwork and graphic storytelling, working with a centralized team of artists and designers. The newly created position is both managerial and hands-on. The Creative Director will also work with the digital media team on the design of such products as e-newsletters, microsites, webpages and e-blasts. RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as the creative leader, managing and inspiring a growing art and design team o Brainstorming layouts and art concepts. o Collaborating on art securement, selection and presentation. o Advising on typography and color selections. • Conceptualizing and executing arresting magazine covers and feature layouts. • Commissioning and art-directing photography shoots. • Securing artwork from stock agencies and other third parties. • Creating infographics, charticles, listicles and other graphics-based, non-traditional ways of telling a story. • Work with members of the editorial team to ensure that layouts and a page's graphic elements assist in telling the story. • Working with the digital media team to ensure that the design of digital products complements the look and "feel" of CSP print media. SKILLS • The leadership depth to manage, teach and inspire a team of less-experienced artists and designers. • Creative thinking within practical boundaries. • Ability to think strategically and evolve designs to meet changes in the marketplace. • Superb project management abilities. • A pronounced ability to prioritize competing projects. • The diplomacy to deal with multiple "clients" whose needs and priorities occasionally conflict. • The ability to explain art concepts or approaches in words to editors and other non-artists. • A strong knowledge of topography and its use as a visual element. • The temperament and agility to handle a high volume of work, often in pressured circumstances. • Ability to draft and manage a budget. • Knowledge of InDesign. QUALIFICATIONS • A Bachelor's or higher degree in fine arts, graphic design or a related field. • 5-10 years of experience producing page layouts for a high-gloss magazine. Experience in consumer magazines is a plus, and experience in consumer food magazines is valued even higher. • At least 5 years of managing a staff. • Willingness to travel on occasion. LOCATION: New state-of-the-art offices on the 20th floor of the Oakbrook Terrace Tower, near Rtes. 290 (Eisenhower Expwy.), 294 (Tri-State Tollway), 88 (Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway), 56 (Butterfield Road), 38 (Roosevelt), and 83 (Kingery Highway). Public transportation options include numerous PACE buses, as well as the Union Pacific-West and BSNF Metra lines. REPORTING: The Creative Director reports to the Editorial Director of CSP Business Media's Convenience Retailing Group, Mitch Morrison, and the Editorial Director of CSP Business Media's Food Service Group, Peter Romeo.
