Art Director - Budget Travel

Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel is looking for an Art Director to design our award-winning, bimonthly magazine. We are a one-person art department (working with two photo editors and a small staff of print editors), so  the successful applicant will need to be versatile and collaborative. The job is primarily devoted to designing the magazine, but there is also occasional work for the marketing and on-line departments, as well as the potential for designing tablet versions of the magazine. The "budget" part of our name runs deeply through our identity: the design budget is itself small, so our art director needs to be creative with resources, as well as with her/his design vision. (You will be designing graphics and maps, as well as the features and covers.) That said, this is a great opportunity for a designer to put her/his mark on a publication and to become a full partner in the creation of a beloved and terrific magazine (if we do say so ourselves).

Senior Designer / Art Director, Conde Nast

Person would be responsible for in-book sections, event collateral, tablet executions, web banners, email campaigns, sweepstakes, contests and a host of other creative and innovative marketing efforts from concept to completion. The art director/senior designer will be responsible for design but also for art directing photo shoots. This position will report to the design director and work collaboratively with a cross-functional team on every assigned project.

An ideal Senior Designer will possess the following:
- Education in Design, Graphic Design or equivalent experience.
- 2 to 4 years experience in a competitive, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience working with InDesign and Illustrator files for magazine print advertising.
- Strong image sourcing and editing skills is required.
- Experience with directing and producing photo shoots
- Experience at prepping Photoshop files for HTML and Flash development a plus.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to work on production projects.

An ideal design team member will possess the following traits and skills:
- Work in a team environment, collaborating with project managers, strategists and copywriters to ensure design meets the client's business objectives.
- A portfolio that contains design examples from brands in categories parallel to those of Conde Nast's main client base: luxury, fashion, beauty, food and travel.
- Experience applying theories related to color schemes, use of space, typography, usability and visual flow.

Photo Editor, Organic Gardening

Organic Gardening magazine is currently seeking a Photo Editor with a great eye for quality photography. The successful applicant will be self-reliant yet collaborative, hold a pro-active work attitude, and will enjoy being a part of a small, committed team. This position is located in Emmaus, PA.

It would be an advantage for the applicant to be fluent in color separation and correction processes and to be able to work collaboratively with the magazine's production dept to obtain the highest standards of print reproduction across all brand extensions.

Responsibilities include:
-Developing innovative concepts, assigning and producing photographic illustration for main edit features and front of book departments, working in close collaboration with the EIC, the Art Director and the other members of the edit, online and art team
-Coordinating and directing studio and location photo shoots for garden, food and lifestyle topics
-Identifying photographers and stylists who will bring a high quota of creative value to the brand
-Negotiating photography fees for both commissioned and stock-sourced images
-Acquiring first-quality imagery that meets the high content standards of the brand while maintaining budgets and negotiating effectively with vendors

Ideal candidate will possess:
-A minimum of five years of related work experience
-Highly detail oriented individual with good communication skills
-Digital online photo experience managing and researching stock imagery
-Daily photo production, retouching, and optimizing
-Adept at Adobe Photoshop
-Experience with Content Management Systems and keyword tagging

Digital Imaging Specialist / Art Director

Inked Magazine seeks an energetic, organized, and hands-on multi-tasker to head up the prepress of their monthly magazine and the production and prepress of their bi-monthly magazine Inked Girls. The right well-rounded candidate will be expected to have a solid background in photo retouching, color management and correction, design and layout, and digital asset management. Magazine and or publishing experience is a must. The position requires the ability to manage multiple schedules and tasks simultaneously. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-directed, and capable of juggling day-to-day administrative tasks with work on current and future issues. The qualified candidate should have great attention to detail, and possess the ability to shape a project from conception to completion. This individual should excel at working both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

Redbook Magazine Graphic Design Intern

Redbook Magazine's art department is looking for energetic design interns for the Spring semester of 2012 in New York City. Candidates should be eager to learn about how the design department of a nationally acclaimed magazine runs. Responsibilities include research, maintaining wall of printed layouts, and general administrative duties such as organizing reference material, photocopying inspiration material, and occasionally assisting the Creative Director. Design work will be assigned based on ability. The candidates should be resourceful, responsible, able to learn quickly and familiar with Adobe CS3. Most importantly, you MUST be able to receive college credit and work between 2-5 days a week from 10-6pm starting after January 2nd until the end of the semester. This is an unpaid internship, but the experience is great!

Art Production Associate

Men's Journal magazine seeks an energetic, ambitious Art Production Associate to assist the Art Department and Managing Editor. The Art Production Associate will clean up pages prior to sending them to prepress, send color to prepress as soon as layouts are approved, manage InDesign and InCopy templates and work with prepress to folio the book. Candidate will update the wall regularly (as layouts are approved and as map order changes), assist with creating PDF's and printouts, perform light design work and assist the staff with Men's Journal specific K4 questions and problems. The Art Production Associate will back-up the Managing Editor with trafficking, mapping and reinforcement of workflow.
 
The Art Production Associate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in art production at a magazine. Candidate must be an organized, detail-oriented self-starter who can handle significant responsibility and work well in a team environment.

This position reports to the Managing Editor.

Photo Assistant, BACKPACKER, AIM Outdoor Group

BACKPACKER magazine is seeking to hire a full-time Photo Assistant to fulfill images needs for BACKPACKER's print and digital media. 

Candidates should have previous experience in a photo department and thorough knowledge of Mac operating system. They must be extremely organized, flexible, and able to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.

Overall the duties are photo research, preparation and styling for product shoots, and administrative details.

Job Responsibilities -- Specific duties include but are not limited to:
-  Assist the Senior Associate Photo Editor with all photo department responsibilities

Deputy Art Director - Cooking Light

Cooking Light is the largest epicurean magazine in the US and is owned by Time Inc. It has been undergoing a brand transformation for over a year which has been received very well by its audience. The perfect candidate for this spot will have a love and understanding of food and food photography. He or she will be an enthusiastic team player as we operate out of two offices, one in NYC and one in Birmingham, AL. Deputy responsibilities include:

People Magazine art department is seeking an experienced Editorial Production Artist for June and July. Position is 4 days, 35/hours a week (Monday - Thursday). This is an editorial position and you will be needed to work on both the print and ipad product.??

Expert InDesign skills a must?Detail-orientated (a little production OCD is never a bad thing)

Ability to multi-task and handle both large and small tasks??
