Assistant Art Director

Los Angeles Magazine is seeking a talented, energetic and inspired Assistant Art Director to join its creative team. This person will be part of a 4 person art department and report directly to the Design Director. This person will work closely with both art and edit teams to produce a wide range of editorial content from food to fashion. The Assistant Art Director will design front and back of book sections of the magazine as well as occasional features. Successful candidates will possess a high level of design sophistication, a keen eye for photography, illustration, and have exceptional typography skills. The Assistant Art Directors primary responsibility will be designing for the Los Angeles magazine but he/she will also contribute to other in-house ancillary titles as well. Will help provide design needs for digital and social platforms, as needed.

Director of Photography / Los Angeles Magazine

Los Angeles magazine is seeking an experienced, creative, and collaborative Photography Director in our Los Angeles office. The Photo Director's responsibilities will include idea collaboration, planning, and executing the magazine's photography. We are looking for a highly collaborative individual who enjoys new challenges and the art of magazine making. You will pitch and produce top-quality photo shoots, including fashion and photo-journalism, as well as oversee the research of stock photography. You will work in conjunction with editors and art directors to make a visually exciting editorial product. You will hire photographers to help bring a fresh eye to the diverse content and pages of Los Angeles magazine. You will set up and produce all photo shoots-- which include booking studios, photographers, models, and stylists--as well as keep on budget and maintain the monthly Art budget. The ideal candidate is: • An expert in presenting people, lifestyle, food, and fashion images that tell the rich visual story of L.A. • Strong with conceptual photography, has a creative spirit and "Can Do" attitude. You will need to have the ability to match the right photographer with assignment to reflect the tone and content of the story • Highly organized and has a flexible, open approach to work and collaboration • Communicative, with a clear approach to keeping editors and art directors updated on the status of photos • Connected to professional photographers in L.A. but also keeping an eye out for new talent • An explorer of LA. Whether it's a hot new restaurant, a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, or an art show at LACMA you should be invested in diving into L.A.'s culture • A brand builder: The monthly magazine is just one part of the Los Angeles brand. You have a desire to make great photographic content not just for the magazine, but you will work closely with the digital team to create the digital visual look and feel of our brand • Well-versed in digital interactive design • Experienced in working with production and pre-press to ensure color correction and great looking final images • Has an up-to-date knowledge of photo and image best usage practices for social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook • Detail-oriented in relation to getting all pertinent information for captions and credits
