The Village Voice has an immediate opening for an experienced editorial art director. The art director is responsible for all visual components of both digital and print publications, overseeing photography, videography and illustration as well as maintaining the overall design quality and integrity of the print publication. Ideal candidates will:
- Be able to conceptualize and produce modern and compelling design for covers, features, editorial pages and special online presentations.
- Have experience commissioning high-quality videography, photography and illustration, negotiating fees, clearing rights and managing a budget.
- Understand how to balance strong leadership with strong collaboration in order to thrive in a deadline-driven team environment.
- Have a superior understanding of typography and expert-level skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat.
Five years of editorial design experience is required. Knowledge of a postscript- and PDF- based workflow is beneficial. Other talents such as illustration, photography or video production are desirable.
