Washingtonian Magazine is seeking an experienced, organized Photography Director in our Washington DC office. Reporting directly to the Creative Director the Photo Director's responsibilities will include idea collaboration, planning, and executing the magazine and ancillary magazine's photography and photo illustrations. The Photo Director will run the photo department, oversee photo staff, setting up and producing all photo shoots; booking studios, photographers, and stylists; negotiating rates, obtaining stock images, and maintaining the photography budget. The ideal candidate has: Knowledge of standard and digital photography processes and lab developing, studio set-up, and photo equipment and lighting needs
Expertise in presenting people, lifestyle, landscape, news, and still life images that convey visual storytelling and have strong emotional content
Strong conceptual abilities, creative spirit and the talent to implement photo shoots reflecting the tone and the content of the story
Experience working with production and pre-press to ensure color correction and image fidelity
Unofficial responsibilities include:

The position requires:
Minimum 5 years consumer magazine experience
Extensive photographer and industry contacts
Complete knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop with an outstanding sense of image and color
