Moneta Sleet Photo Show at the Schomburg

Moneta Sleet Photo Show at the Schomburg

Photo alert! There are only two days left to see the Moneta Sleet, Jr. photo exhibit at the Schomburg Center in New York City. Sleet was the staff photographer for Ebony magazine in the 1950s and 60s, and this collection of over 100 photos includes intimate portraits of African American political and cultural celebrities, powerful photojournalism shot at civil rights demonstrations in the South, and some amazing portraits of Martin Luther King and his family. Sleet was the first African American photographer to win the Pulitzer Prize, for this photograph of Coretta Scott King at Martin Luther King's funeral.

The show closes on Friday, August 30. Take your Summer Friday and go see this show. As an added bonus, there's also a big Gordon Parks photo show upstairs. The 2/3 train stops right in front of the Schomburg, so it's an easy train ride.
