The annual SPD Student Design Competition recognizes exceptional design by students. Entries are created exclusively for the competition in one of 5 supplied categories and are judged by some of the most distinguished names in publication design. To this year's jury, we extend a huge thanks:

Evan Campisi :: ART DIRECTOR :: Nylon
John Dixon :: ART DIRECTOR :: The Village Voice
Robert Festino :: CREATIVE DIRECTOR :: Men's Health
Elizabeth Hummer :: DESIGN DIRECTOR :: Harper's Bazaar
Kory Kennedy :: DESIGN DIRECTOR :: Runner's World
Gloria Pantel :: DESIGN DIRECTOR :: TV Guide
James Reyman :: PRINCIPAL :: Reyman Studio

Established in 1995, the competition honors the life and work of Bruce W. Honeycutt, who died January 12, 1994 at the very young age of 40. During his career, he served as the Art Director of Details and Spy magazines, as well as on the staffs of Vanity Fair and GQ. His work has been recognized by SPD, AIGA, the Art Directors Club of New York, and by magazines such as Print, Advertising Age, and Adweek. He also taught publication design at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

A huge thanks to everyone who entered!
  • Very nice work. Congrats to the winners! If you entered and didn't win, hang on to those files. When you're ready, take a look, and ask yourself, "what would I do differently?" Then, go back into the piece and rework it. You'll be surprised at how your solutions will develop, and you just might get a portfolio piece out of it.

  • Nancy Stamatopoulos

WOW, at first glance I thought I was looking at professional work. Congrats to the winners! You are now ambassadors for Taylor U., OCAD and R.I.T. Your professors should be proud. BTW, this is a small sampling of a lot of spectacular entries that came to SPD. Kudos to the judges to be able to narrow this down to the top 3, (don't know how they did it.)

  • JJ

Congrats to all the winners! I'm looking forward to using these as inspiration as I work on my craft to enter next year!
