Meet the Judges, Part Two: Fortune and Men's Journal

You now have a few extra days to perfect those entries for our Student Design Competition (deadline extended to March 12 at 5pm!), so take a minute to meet our judges and hear what they're looking for in your entries!

We met Stravinski Pierre of Esquire and Sean Johnston of Field & Stream earlier this week. Today we meet two more incredible talents ...

Fortune
Emily Kehe, DESIGN DIRECTOR

What are you most hoping to see in the students' work?
Something new, something different, something on a grid. I also really like seeing students' work because design students today (I sound old) get to work in so many programs and with different technology. I'm always jealous.

Where did you intern?
I had an internship at an LA design firm that specialized in TV and movie graphics. That internship made me not want to work in TV and movie graphics. Then I interned at the Miami Herald. I made $6/hour doing the covers for the Weekend Section and it was fantastic. That internship made me want to work in newspapers. Then I was an assistant to Ronn Campisi at his small design firm in Boston. He made me want to work in magazines.

Damian Wilkinson, ART DIRECTOR

What are you most hoping to see in the students' work?
An understanding that our primary role as Art Director is to communicate ideas clearly, allied with visual flair.

Where did you intern?
At a regional newspaper in the north of England. The Art Director was both an old school typographer, and a deeply committed alcoholic. He taught me how to hand set type with a hangover.

Meet the final two of our awesome judges soon, and get more tips and details as you finish your entries, so keep checking back in with us!
