As your school year gets under way, hopefully we can soften some of that end-of-summer-sadness with an exciting event ... our SPD-U Pub(lications) Crawl! This is an annual day-long event where you'll get to tour the offices of two fantastic magazines and/or design firms for an in-depth look at the way things really work.
We have a truly amazing group of tour hosts ... Bon Appetit, Fortune, More, The New Yorker, Nylon, Every Day with Rachael Ray, Popular Mechanics and Pentagram!!! They're all getting ready to give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access, so come armed with your curiosity and questions, and prepare yourself for a very unique tour of great magazine-making. • FREE for all SPD Student Members! But you must reserve your spot and give us your tour choices.
• $15 for everyone else.
• OR join now as a Student Member for $50 ... if you join now, your admission will be FREE to this and all our other events this year. PLEASE NOTE: Because this event previously sold out, you will most likely be assigned to the newly added TOUR D. However, in the event that previously registered students drop out, please indicate your 1st, 2nd and 3rd tour
preferences, choosing from all 4 tours. We will do our best to give you your topmost choices, but be prepared it will be TOUR D.
We'll send you an email on Thursday, 9/26 with specific location details, but until then, plan to meet us in the Union Square area.
BRING WITH YOU:
• a government-issued photo I.D. for access to office buildings
• money for lunch and possible subway travel
• a notebook for notes and a bag since you'll be getting handouts and magazines
• umbrella/raingear and comfortable shoes since we'll be walking to the different offices
• questions for your tour guides! Don't miss out on this opportunity to really find out what working on magazines is like ... think about all the things you want to know, write 'em down and be ready to ask your hosts about them.
Leave the résumés and portfolios at home ... we'll have a Portfolio Review and Workshop later in the year and you'll have the chance to review it with our panel of professionals at that time.
THE FINE PRINT
Space is limited so RSVP asap!
*Your tour preferences are just that; in other words, they are not guaranteed. Tours are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis ... so the earlier you RSVP, the better chance you have of getting your top choice. This also means that if you are part of a large group registering, you may not all get assigned the same tour. Tour assignments will be given to you the morning of the event. Rest assured that ALL of the tours are awesome, so even if you don't get your first choice, it'll still be a great experience.
Please note that registration closes at midnight EST on Tuesday night, 9/24. Refunds are available until that time if you find you're not able to come. Once registration is closed, refunds are no longer available as we reserved the space for you and are no longer able to fill the spot.
