SPD-U PUB(lications) CRAWL Event Happening 9/19/14
As the 2014-15 school year gets started, we're joining in the excitement
with our annual SPD-U PUB(lications) CRAWL! This is a day-long event
where you'll get to tour the offices of two fantastic magazines and/or
design firms for an in-depth look at the way things really work. We have a truly amazing and awesome group of tour hosts ... Bloomberg Businessweek, Esquire, Martha Stewart Living, More, Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure and 29th Street Publishing!!! They're all getting ready to give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access, so come armed with your curiosity and questions, and prepare yourself for a very unique tour of great magazine-making.

WHEN:
Friday, September 19, 2014
9:15 am - 4:00 pm
Please arrive at 9:15, and be aware you cannot arrive later than 9:45am. We leave for the various offices promptly at 9:45--if you're late, you're going to be left behind and because of logistics, you cannot join us at a later time during the day. The day will end after the last tour, no later than 4:00pm. After that, you are free to leave.

TOUR B: 29th St. Publishing & Martha Stewart Living
TOUR C: Sports Illustrated & Fast Company
TOUR D: Bloomberg Businessweek & MORE Magazine
HOW MUCH:
• FREE for all SPD Student Members! But you must reserve your spot and give us your tour choices.
• $15 for everyone else. (This event is for students of any level as well as recent graduates who are within a year of their graduation date. Teachers and faculty members are also welcome when accompanying their students, but you do need to register.)
• OR join now as a Student Member for $50 ($40 if you're out of the NYC area) ... if you join now, your admission will be FREE to this and all our other SPD-U events this year. Plus you get lots of other awesome stuff, like a free SPD Annual (worth $65) and free competition entries. Need more convincing? Check out the details here.
WANNA COME?
FOR SECURITY REASONS, NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WHO HASN'T SIGNED-UP IN ADVANCE--TICKETS MUST BE RESERVED OR PURCHASED BY MIDNIGHT, TUESDAY, 9/16.
BRING WITH YOU:
• A government-issued photo I.D. for access to office buildings
• Money for lunch or pack a lunch
• A MetroCard or money/credit card to purchase one since most tours require some subway travel
• A notebook for notes and a bag since you'll be getting handouts and magazines
• Umbrella/raingear and comfortable shoes since we'll be walking to the different offices. No need to dress too formally, but keep in mind you'll be meeting lots of potential future employers and in various professional settings.
• Questions for your tour hosts! Don't miss out on this opportunity to really find out what working on magazines is like ... think about all the things you want to know, write 'em down and be ready to ask your hosts about them.
Leave the résumés and portfolios at home ... we'll have a Portfolio Review event later in the year. Although, it's never a bad idea to have business cards with your contact info handy, in case you want to exchange information with your SPD-U Tour Guides or with your fellow tour members.
THE FINE PRINT

*When you register, you'll get a chance to indicate which of the tours are your top choices. Tours are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis ... so the earlier you RSVP, the better chance you have of getting your top choice. This also means that if you are part of a large group registering, you may not all get assigned the same tour. Tour assignments will be given to you the morning of the event.
Rest assured that ALL of the tours are awesome, so even if you don't get your first choice, it'll still be a great experience.
Also be aware tours are subject to change.
Please note that registration closes at midnight EST on Tuesday night, 9/16. Refunds are available until that time if you find you're not able to come. Once registration is closed however, refunds are no longer available as we reserved the space for you and are no longer able to fill the spot.
